Help with editing please

Hi I am trying to edit a note, specifically a drawing. When I click on the pencil at the bottom it takes me to a fresh page instead of allowing me to edit the drawing, and then I cannot write on the fresh page anyway. I tried googling this but keep seeing references to the pencil at the top of the note to open edit mode, but there is no pencil at the top. Can anybody please help me? I should add that I just started using this app yesterday. Thank you!
