(Archived) notes aren't displayed correctly

Idea

Hey guys,

I'm using Evernote 1.10.1 Beta 1 and I've noticed (also in version 1.10 for Mac) that after a while the right side in Evernote does not display the correct note I'm activating/clicking on in my list. Only a restart of Evernote seems to temporarily fix that issue. Someone else with similar issues? Any ideas how to fix it - it's quite annoying...

When you first notice this (i.e. the first time you click on a note and see the wrong thing on the right), could you please go to:

Help > Activity Log...

Hopefully, the last few lines may contain some useful information about potential errors.

Here we go. It appears it causes this error once a note with a pdf included is loaded. Then it won't change the view in the right side of evernote even if I click on other notes. Here are the last lines of the Activity log you requested. Hope that helps.

I am having the exact same issue. I am having to close Evernote and re-launch it to make it usable again. The beta update on 2010-07-22 didn't fix it yet.. thanks for any help on this!

Thanks for the logs and the other details. I'm not able to reproduce this yet on my Mac by clicking around on notes with PDFs, but I've filed all of this into a bug for engineering to research a bit more. The last two lines from your logs definitely look like a problem.

If you see this repeatedly, I'd be curious to know if this problem always seems to start with the same note in your account. I.e. you view one particular note, and then it starts failing after that.

(We still can't reproduce this ourselves, so are guessing that there may be something specific to the content of the account.)

Thanks

It's completely random. I click 5-10 notes and it happens. This time it actually "froze" on a text note, containing no attachement of any sort.

It appears it has something to do with how fast I click on different notes (the faster I change notes the more likely I'm getting this error) and if instead of hitting a note I click on the "month separator". Very strange. I'll get the error every time I work with Evernote on my mac. However, sometime it takes longer and sometimes the error occurs within 1 min of using Evernote.

Our Mac team lead is currently investigating whether this could be caused by a problem in the new feature that displays the name of geo-tagged note locations (e.g. "Chicago") rather than the numeric coordinates. I.e. if that subsystem fails, the client chokes.

If you are having this problem, could you say whether you are clicking on notes that may have geo-tagging? I.e. anything created from a mobile smartphone probably has geotag information in the "more info" section of the note.

Thanks

I think that you guys have the right hunch. It appears that it freezes mainly after I've clicked on a note containing a picture taken with my iPhone. I often use JotNot Pro and their export function to Evernote (a really neat combination btw). When I view the details of these notes it doesn't give me Location Information right away in Evernote. However, if I click on that little arrow in that note it opens the browser and shows the location using google maps. I guess that is intended. So yeah, it seems that this note crashing issue is related to pictures snapped by my iPhone camera. Hope that helps. Your help is much appreciated!

This problem also happens to me in 1.10.1 in Mac OS X 10.6.4. I even just applied the graphics update for Snow Leopard this morning, but still nothing.

I notice it failing whenever a PDF is selected. I had thought it was one particular PDF, but after adding another, the behavior repeats.

Where can I try the 1.11 beta? I filed a support ticket.

Just to confirm this behavior, I added a Make:Projects notebook and left it selected upon quitting the application. In its current state, it wouldnt display the notes inside this notebook when I select them. Upon relaunching, one of the Make:Projects notes is still selected and displays properly. I'm able to view and display (in Mixed view mode) any of my text notes (mostly i have text strings and pdfs). I can double-click them and they display inside a new window. As soon as I select a PDF, that PDF will display, but now clicking any other note shows blank. Even when double-clicked in a new window. Doesn't matter if it's my notebook or the Make:Projects one.
