(Archived) Synchronisation (INTERNET_CANNOT_CONNECT) error

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have just, as of 10 minutes ago, upgarded to version 3.0.0.542 (27061) and am now unable to access the internet at all. I get the following error message:

10:45 0% Authenticating user "myusername"

10:45 0% TException: Can't send HTTP request, error: INTERNET_CANNOT_CONNECT

10:45 0% Session terminated abnormally, elapsed time: 0s

Is there a known issue with synchronisation in the current version of beta 3? What is the issue here?

Many thanks.

Hi,

further to my original post I am running Win XP Service Pack 2.

I unintslled Evernote 3.0.0.542 (27061) and downloaded the full install from the website and reinstalled. Still the same error. There is definately something amiss with Synchronisation on this current addition.

Many thanks

Can you try back the .539 build and see if the problem persists or not?

Yep, same thing! The error reads as:

12:56 0% Authenticating user "myusername"

12:56 0% TException: Can't send HTTP request, error: INTERNET_CANNOT_CONNECT

12:56 0% Session terminated abnormally, elapsed time: 0s

I am now in the process of downloading the install from here:

http://wikisend.com/download/932392/EverNote(fix).zip

I will see whether there is any change with this and report back.

Back to square one again! Whatever it is you guys are doing on the server end, please stop it. Please!!

EDIT: After refreshing my browser I see the message from you guys saying that you are carrying out maintenace. It might be a good idea to make this warning availble to those using the desktop application as well, maybe!!

Many thanks.

I tried installing the EN 4 preview a week or so ago, alongside EN 3.5, and I had a problem that 3.5 worked fine, but 4 didn't. In any case, I decided to wait and try the release version of EN 4 - but I have the same problem. My internet connection is fine, the EN service is working, EN4 in fact checks for updates OK, but when I try to sync I get errors:

This is running on a minimal XP install, and it's possibly that I have some necessary service disabled - are there any dependencies I should look out for?

Thanks! Mark

I think that this may be an issue with Windows Internet subsystem trying to connect to www.evernote.com via SSL (https).

The software update process uses plain text HTTP, so that would explain why it works but authentication does not.

I would start by trying to access this page from Internet Explorer (not Chrome, Firefox, etc.) from that same computer:

https://www.evernote.com/status.jsp

Does that work without any errors or warnings? If not, you may need to tweak something in your firewall settings.

Link to comment

Thanks for your reply, Dave. I can access the https status page with no problems in firefox. There are no firewalls etc. running on this machine.

In fact I think the update check also failed, but just returns "You have the latest version" even when no connection was made - I guess this is a bug. From the log:

http://update.evernote.com/public/ENWin4/update.xml

12:04:36 [2372] Unable to send HTTP request: 12002

EN 3.5 worked fine on this machine, and all other software that requires internet access is working. Are their any Windows services I should check that are running (several are disabled to save resources)?

Thanks! Mark

I think that you may be entering your email address into the login form instead of your username.

Try logging in with your username (i.e. there shouldn't be an '@' symbol in the login field).

We'll fix the client to handle this in a much less confusing way.

Thanks

Nope, I'm definitely using my username (I didn't know you could use anything else!) and the exact procedure works on my two other machines. I signed out and tried to sign in again, and I get a message "Cannot communicate with Evernote servers to verify password".

I have just "manually" upgraded to 2927 and I have the same problem there... Any other suggestions?

I have the same problem except for INTERNET_CANNOT_CONNECT error.

Please provide assistance.

Please try to log in to Evernote on the web using Internet Explorer (not Chrome, Firefox, etc.) on that same machine. Does that work without any errors/warnings/etc.?

If so, can you please try to reboot your PC? I've heard that has fixed a few people who've seen this problem on v4.

Thanks

Ok, I tried loggin in with my username.

The result: post-23531-131906068387_thumb.png

And I tried logging in with IE, I have IE9 so taht seems to be the problem, right?

post-23531-131906068389_thumb.png

But why would using evernote depend on my IE version?

Edit: the newest version of EN4 fixed my problems

Hey,

I'm using EN4 on my work computer and have been unable to get it working.

It worked for one day last week, but the next day it didn't work.

My system: Win 7 32-bit

EN version: 4.0.1.2927

I am loged in with my username and not e-mail.

I've tried rebooting a few times, I've tried removing my database, I've accessed EN web with IE9 (This gave me an browser unsupported message the first time I logged in), I've accessed https://www.evernote.com/status.jsp with IE9 without problems.

I just don't know what to do anymore, and not having the desktop client is really crippling my workflow.

I now had Evernote 4.0.2.3126 running for almost a week. Last night my Windows crashed (unrelated, I hope :) ) and after that crash Evernote gives the same error message than in the OP.

I rebooted the machine and no change. Though I'm pretty sure that installing anew version will fix this.

Why would Evernote stop working in realtion to a windows crash?

Link to comment

Okay, installed the new version, fixed my problems.

Friday night my Win7 crashed again and thus Evernote was broken again this morning.

Now it seems to forget my notes database aswell as the internet connection.

Currently downloading the newest version, let's see if that fixes anything.

I'm beginning to think that Evernote could have something to do with the crashes. What other reason is there for Evernote to break from windows crashes?

Hi,

I am using 4.2 of Evernote.

It was okay all the time but today as I tried to login, it said it couldn't connect to the evernote server (the login window took ages to load, becoming 'no response' throughout the process and eventually said, 'can't connect to the evernote server)

I tried using Mozilla Firefox to log in the evernote web version

it's ok

Therefore I can be sure there's nothing wrong with my password

Please do my favour and check my account

I HAVE ALREADY DELETED IT AND RE-INSTALLED EVERNOTE

however

STILL THE SAME

Please help, my account user name is 'llytyl'

I am a uni student, I rely so much on Evernote with my notes and learning material.

Please help :(

THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND ATTENTION :D

Hi,

I'm trying to use Evernote 4.5.0.5229 on my PC running Windows 7 64bit and Firefox 6.0.2. I also have IE 9.0.8112.16421 installed.

When I try to connect the desktop Evernote I get the message "Can't connect to the server" and the following log report. IE is running and connecting to the web, but can't access http://www.evernote.com in IE or Firefox that gets "The server at http://www.evernote.com is taking too long to respond." or "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

a) I don't use IE9 so can't give you a quick answer. Others can.

:( Yeah. If you can browse, you are online.

Is the problem persistent? I have been seeing intermittent communication errors with the service. Recovery period has varied from minutes to hours. Typically (9 times out of 10) less than 5 minutes.

Link to comment
I just tried with the same version of IE 9. I can access Evernote just fine; the web client, forums, et al.

I have been logging frequent communication errors in the web client (I have it up almost all the time) plus, as previously reported, intermittent sync errors since beta3.

This problem is failure to connect at all from Windows client.

Hi I had a similar problem, evernote would work on my android phone connected to my router via wifi and my pc connected to my router via lan cable but would NOT connect at ALL to my laptop connected to the same router via wifi. no matter what i tried, Internet explorer etc did not work. in fact could not connect to evernote website via IE that was weird.

Anyway i figured the problem must be some wifi setting gone awry on my laptop, so i plugged it into router with a lan cable and logged into evernote from app and from ie. worked like a charm everything synced and now it seems to have overcome its reluctance and works on wifi. Hope this helps.

We've been experiencing sporadic SSL connection errors on our load balancers. Once a connection is established, it works fine, so it's only an issue for the start of any interaction. This may translate into temporary browser errors or sync errors which would go away after another attempt to sync. We are working on resolving this issue but as mentioned it is very sporadic and is happening infrequent.

That could explain intermittent failure to connect. (The originally reported problem).

It doesn't seem to explain abnormal termination of an established sync session.

i can't reboot the computer the next time, so what can i do now?

removing (killing) all EN tasks from the taskmanager, nor a normal application exit did help.

deactivating the nic did not help either.

anybody an idea on how i could try to fix this? (without rebooting)

all other programs which use internet work normal.

EN on anonter windows computer in the same network does work normal.

very strange

Evernote has stopped syncing - saying that it is unable to connect to the server. This has been going on all day.

For the last couple days no matter what I try, my local desktop EN copy will not sync with the server. I just get the error msg "Syncronization Failed!" Cannot connect to Evernote Servers.

When I log out and try to log in via desktop it also fails to connect and just asks if I want to open a local copy.

I've just downloaded the most recent beta so we'll see if that helps. Otherwise, suggestions?

1. Make sure you have a backup of your .exb file.

2. Empty the trash on all platforms that you use (Windows, and the web version in particular).

3. Try synchronizing again.

4. Go to Help/Activity Log and see if you can see anything there that might indicate a particular note is causing a problem - if so, delete that note and try synchronizing again.

5. If none of the above works, put in a support ticket.

Seems that EN can detect offline mode, but doesn't seem to notify if you are logging in. (judging by the error message reported, and my testing)

If you are already logged in, and try to sync while in offline mode, EN will tell you so, but if you are trying to log in, then you wont see it.

I can't get EN to sync from my laptop. I haven't tried for a long time because I wasn't interested in that part of EN. However, I just got a smartphone and would like to have access to some stuff from it.

I reinstalled EN but that hasn't helped. I found a forum post that suggested that internet explorer was offline, so I checked that, but it works fine. I have posted the last activity log lines below. Hope someone can help.

Assuming you can access the internet from other things on that computer (e.g. web browsing, email, etc.), is it possible that you have firewall software that is blocking Evernote from making its outbound connection?

Hi all. Had to reinstall Windows 7 and am now reinstalling all programs. Evernote downloaded and appeared to install correctly, but when I try to open it on my PC it gives the message in the title. I saw various posts about IE needing to be reviewed to be sure it was not in Work Offline status. Checked that - all OK - even toggled it back and forth a few times. Reinstalled Evernote. Same problem.

Any ideas on what else to try?

Thanks.

Jaime

I had the same problem. This is happening to me both on Windows 7 and a Windows 8 machine I have. In both cases, IE is not in "Work Offline" mode and I can log into the web version of Evernote from either machine with no problems. However, the same error appears on both systems.

All I receive is the popup error of "Could not connect to server. You need to be online to register or perform an initial sync. Please check your connection to the Internet".

Please advise!!

Thank you.

EN - any response here? I have had this issue before I rebuilt my laptop with Windows 8 as well. That was Windows 7. That makes 3 systems that I have had alone that I cannot use the Windows client on and have to resort to the web based solution. These cannot be isolated incidents. Anything you can provide assistance with?

Thank you!

I am having the same problem. Moved to a new desktop at work and wanted to download Evernote. I use Google Chrome and am not sure how to check if I'm in "Work Offline" mode, but seeing as how everything else with the internet is working normally, I don't think so. I downloaded Evernote successfully but I cannot open it. An error message pops up that says "Could not connect to server. You need to be online to register or perform an initial sync. Please check your internet connection."

Thanks for any help.

Hi

I can not connect with Evernote servers form home and also from office wich is in different city. In both locations I'm using this same ISP as ORANGE ( DSL in office, ADSL in home)

Neither windows aplications nor website is working. Also when I'm trying to connect wia router in any of this two places by smartphone application I got Bootstrap prifile is null.

When I change router for this pne with 3G modem inside or I use smartphone 3G data plan everything is working properly.

From Evernote windows application I got

I'm having similar issues:

In the last week or so, running Win 7 desktop client, I can no longer access EN servers, getting INTERNET_CANNOT_CONNECT error in the activity log

I CAN access EN from Chrome Browser

I CANNOT access EN from IE10 Browser (and I have cleared the cache and ensured it's NOT in Offline mode)

I was able to open a ticket with EN And get this resolved.  Here's the solution that worked for me.  Crazy - but it worked:

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Did you get a chance to check your security settings in IE? We recently updated our security settings for the Evernote app on Windows. The Evernote application connects with our servers via IE, so you'll need to make sure that the necessary security settings to access Evernote are enabled in Internet Explorer.

Go to Internet Explorer > Settings > Internet Options > Advanced. You will need to confirm that "Use TLS 1.0 / 1.1 / 1.2" is checked. If it's not, please check it and try again.

The settings screen may look different depending on your version of IE, but it will be something like this: http://note.io/1ySKJ7e

Wow, good call! I was having the same problems with Evernote and the reference manager Mendeley, but checking the additional TLS settings in Internet Explorer cleared it right up for me. Thanks!

Thanks macallan1962.  Follow your step, I find the same key. Because I use proxy software which change the IE proxy config,  I cannot surf the net by IE. So I cancel the IE proxy cofig,  It works!
