Word count for selected words

ADS18

Idea

When ticking Status Bar under the View menu, one gets to see the number of words, the number of characters and the size of the not. It would be very helpful to also show the number of selected words whenever you select a couple of lines within that note. You cannot simply highlight a couple of paragraphs and then check how many words that is (right clicking does not give you an option either).

people have been asking for this for quite a few years but evernote are unable or unwilling to add this feature. workarounds are to open a new note, copy paste your paragraph in there. or use any other word processor.

Found this thread from 2013 for instance:

EN is an information management app with basic text editing features. There are many things missing from a full editor, and IMHO it would be the wrong approach to try to bring all this features into the EN app. Who needs full editing power should use a text editor, and save the result as attachment into EN.

On my Mac I am using the PopClip-App, which allows beside many other useful little features to mark a text, and have the character and word count be displayed. This works on any text, as well on a text typed into an EN note.

Using that excuse, Evernote could just never add new things to improve the usability and experience of their product. Which, of course, would be absolutely ridiculous and poor practice. Why would they ask for and create a way for users to request features if they never planned on using that data for future updates? Kind of pointless.

Having a word count for selected text would be very helpful for all sorts of reasons and I hope they add it soon.

Evernote is constantly adding "new things to improve the usability and experience of their product."

Just look through the hundreds of software upgrades they have created over the years.

Why wasn't the request implemented?

Evernote asks for and created a way for users to request features to analyze the demand. The point of this analysis is to compare a small number of requests for a new feature vs the market demand.

Evernote then makes a decision on whether to proceed or stick with the ease of an existing work-around (copy and paste).
