Android: Cut or clear note text

I keep a single "Shopping List" note and frequently need to clear the text and start over.

On Android, I can hold down on a single word to select it then choose "Select All" from the "..." menu that appears over the selected text.  Once selected, I wish there were a way to easily remove all of the selected text.  Maybe the option that makes the most sense would be to add a "Cut" option to the "..." menu (there is already a Copy option).  Alternatively, a "Clear" option or even a way to bring up the keyboard over the selected text so that I could "backspace" would suffice.

If you clear the text, do you have anything left?  A blank Note?

Why not start a new note, or a shopping list template

On my Samsung phone, selecting all while in Edit mode does bring up a menu with a Cut option, and the keyboard as well (which is there automatically in Edit mode). The key is that (naturally enough) it can't cut or delete text if not in Edit mode.
