problem w/ changing font color in table

How do I change the default font color in a table? I've tried different things, and I can certainly change the color of text, but the bullet point keeps appearing in some default sort of color (see image below).

Hmmn.  That also seems to be the case in Windows tables.  Curse of the common editor. 

No matter what color you choose for the text,  numbers,  check boxes and bullets are all dark colored.

Not sure whether that's a design choice or a bug.  Work around would be to create the table and set the text colors in a word processor and copy/ paste into a note.
