Clear All Search

I'd like a UI element to Clear All Search criteria.  On a Windows PC, I have a "click to clear search" that removes search words, but leaves the tags.  This then requires that each tag's 'x' be clicked to remove it, also.  I think 'clear search' used to clear everything, but not sure.

It used to be considered good UI design to provide menu options for UI buttons - this allows people who are good typists [not me] to run the app w/o reaching for the mouse.  The 'clear search' only exists as a clickable UI element.

I'm not sure where you're seeing the 'click to clear search' element (button? menu item?)

In the Windows client, the shortcut key F6 clears the search, and puts you into the search edit control. There should probably be a top-level menu item for it, sure. Also, when clicking in the search information panel, right-click / "Clear Search" will remove search terms and tags, and put you in All Notebooks.

Also be sure to have Clear context on search checked in Options.

Thanks, everyone, for the help.  F6 does clear everything.  I'd never taken the time to hunt down the F6 option.  I did have the "Clear context on search" set in Options.  The element I'd been using was the X in the keyword text control -- currently it clears that control, which is sensible, but I thought it used to clear Tags, also.

The 'x' clears the search edit control, so if there are terms that you've explicitly added there by typing, like tag:sometag,  they get cleared away as well. But picking tags in the tag tree in the left panel doesn't add those tags to the search edit control, so they're not removed.

@CalS Can you elaborate on what this option impacts. I've tried it both ways and don't see what it does. Trying to get clarity on it. Thanks in advance.

If the option is checked and you press the Find in Evernote hotkey the context for the search switches to All Notes.

If you don't have the option checked when you press the Find in Evernote hotkey the context for the search is the current set of notes (you are adding to the current search).

@CalS - Got it...thanks for clarifying. I wish you were the one writing the little "info" help dialogues present in the options interface :)

Your are welcome.  Not sure on the authoring, but thanks for the kind words.
