Editing a Doc file in Evernote

I am having trouble editing an imported Word document.  Please assist.

 

I receive an email with a .docx file attached with a meeting agenda.  I want to open on my IPAD and use my Apple Pencil to take notes during the meeting.

I am able to open the .docx and import it into Evernote.  Then the problem starts.. .I am able to open an "sketch" and pencil in my notes but am not able to work on the original document that is present in the note.

 

What am I doing wrong, or what do I need to do differently.

it appears to be a larger issue, as I can upload a webpage and not be able to write on or comment on it from my IPAD?

 

Any help would be beneficial.
