Tip: Workaround for creating encrypted notes in Android

Hi,

I came up with a simple solution for creating encrypted notes on Android (since the mobile app does not offer this functionality yet).

Simply create a note with just a couple characters encrypted in the Evernote desktop version. Copy it a 100 times or so and put all those notes in a dedicated template notebook. Then create a shortcut to that Notebook.

When you now want to create an encrypted note in Android, simply find the shortcut to the notebook and open one of the template notes. Then decrypt by entering the password. Now you can edit this note in Android and save it to whatever notebook you want to.

Sure, every so often the template folder needs to be stocked up with new templates but it's a temporary solution that works for me. Hope this helps somebody.

Surprisingly this actually works. An alternative to creating the notes in bulk is to use the "duplicate note" feature in a single template note

Good trick.  In iOS, we can decrypt for viewing but can't edit the text

Found another quick workaround to re-encrypt a note on Evernote Android. This workaround applies to existing notes you already encrypted on the desktop version of Evernote:

 

1) Open your note that contains the encrypted information.
2) Decrypt the text by entering your passcode
3) When you are done viewing the information and you want to re-encrypt the note, simply press the back key on your mobile device. You will get a message advising you to disregard changes. Click OK. The note  will revert back to the Encrypted message. 

 

NOTE: This only works if you are NOT adding any additional information to the note. If you are adding new information to the note, decide if you want to keep the new information which will leave the entire note UNENCRYPTED or be willing to lose the new information to resecure the sensitive data.
