Lost most of book written

Recommended Posts

2/3rd of the pages of a book I started writing in Evernote (Windows app) recently disappeared. One would think that, since Evernote's primary purpose is to retain notes, this sort of thing would not happen.

The missing pages were written during the month of April (2017).

The missing pages are not in a "trash" folder.

Maybe they are in a revision history, but of course I can't access that without upgrading.

I have tried several times to contact support through chat, but the website always says chat is unavailable -- even during its posted operational hours.

And, of course, emailing support is only an option for premium users.

I have lost countless hours of work and it seems there is no recourse other than to upgrade, but that provides no guarantees the lost data will be recovered.

Hi.  See the announcement above your post - anyone can send a message to https://twitter.com/evernotehelps - do use it if you possibly can;  you need Evernote's help here to try and understand what happened.

Notes don't tend to go missing,  especially not in bulk.  There are a limited number of possibilities,  some of which mean you'll be able to recover data.  Note History is NOT one of them if the notes are deleted.  All that can do is to step a note back to an earlier date.  If there's no note present,  there can be no steps back.  So apart from easier access to Support (and you get that with a Plus membership) there's no reason to upgrade.

Is it possible that you inadvertently moved these notes into another notebook?  A stray mouse move can sometimes jump notes into the wrong place.  Try searching for any unique words or phrases that you can remember.

Do you have,  or could you have somehow created another account?  The usual explanation for major note events like this is logging into a new or a wrong account.  Try logging out and back in again / restarting your system.

Do you take regular system backups?  (You should...)  If so,  the Evernote for Windows Databases folder contains a copy of your notes here - C:\Users\<user>\Evernote\Databases see if you can restore any files from that location.

Check online by signing in to Evernote.com - you'll get a view of your notes there.  Check for your notes and the Trash notebook there.

Hope some of that helps...

The content of the book was all in a single note, and that note seems to have reverted to an earlier state, resulting in the loss of 2/3rds of the content. What I really need is for Evernote technical staff to query the database and see if my data exists somewhere.

I do not have any other notes besides this book.

If you don't have backups, Evernote has a Note History feature.59037a3fb42b7_ScreenShot2017-04-28at10_21_21AM.png.097803e9d0e55f99d116addab359818c.png

Its available in Premium accounts, but you can subscribe for a single month.

it gives you access to previous versions of notes as in this sample

btw  Writing a book in a single note seems a bad idea.  I'd want to spread it out over various notes, like one for each section.  Also, there are much better editor tools.  At the very least, I'd use MS Word

How? Please provide a link.

You're posting in the Windows forum.
I'm sure your PC has a users settings section where you can manage subscriptions; my Mac has

You could also go to www.evernote.com and subscribe in
user settings > account summary > account level > manage subscription
