Evernote syncing issue

Recommended Posts

I'm having a weird issue with Evernote's syncing. It's been an intermittent problem for months but over the last week or two has gotten more frequent. It's a bit complicated, so bear with me: when I send emails to people about things I want to keep track of (basically anything I need to ask for or delegate) I bcc my unique Evernote email address in order to create a note in my default notebook, and then move that note into a notebook I've created for tracking these sorts of things. I don't use the Evernote syntax to send it straight to the destination notebook because I don't want to confuse the email recipient.

Several months ago when I began working for a new employer who uses Office 365 and hosted Exchange I noticed that when I send an email from Outlook 2013 and bcc Evernote, every once in a while the note doesn't sync to the Evernote Windows or iOS clients. It does show up in the web client, though. What's even odder is that if I use the web client to move the note from the default notebook to another notebook, the note then syncs to the other clients.

This used to happen every once in a while -- maybe one or two out of ten times (just a guess, I haven't been tracking it in detail). Now it happens more than half the time.

I am a Premium subscriber and I did submit a support request but my experiences with Evernote's technical support have been mixed. Has anyone else had this issue and if so is there a resolution or even a workaround?

I haven't seen this before but I'm not an email user (or web); my updates are on my devices and sync up to the servers.

My guess is this issue has to be addressed at the Evernote Support side, and you've done all you can towards getting this fixed.

At least it's good news that your email is getting processed. The syncing issue might explain the issue experience by other users (email not processed)

After trying to reproduce this bug I've discovered it's not quite a bug, but a delay. For some reason if I email something to my Evernote default notebook it may take up to several minutes to sync to the Windows and iOS clients (even though it syncs instantly to the server as evidenced by the note showing up immediately in the web client). Yet if I move that note to another notebook there's no delay in syncing to the Windows and iOS clients.

Maybe it is a bug? Certainly weird. I can work around it, although I wish it weren't necessary. What are ya gonna do?

Hi.  If you're sending something by email to your Evernote address,  that is the web client.  It'll show there as soon as the email arrives.  The Windows and iOS devices will sync with the server at random times according to their local settings,  and once they've picked up all the most recent changes,  they can then show the new note.  But it's not possible to make that sync happen quicker.. unless you also have your options set to sync any changes to the note immediately,  so moving the note (forinstance) forces a sync.  You can also force a manual sync on any device when you start to use it - which is always a good idea...

The periodic sync settings for Windows at least have a minimum interval of 5 minutes so changing the options may help...

@gazumped: To clarify, the notes in question aren't showing up in the Windows client after syncing manually. They're definitely synced to the server because they show up in the web client. But it takes several minutes before a sync will cause them to show up in the Windows or iOS clients (I've experimented by trying repeated manual syncs over that period). So there most certainly is a delay, made even weirder by the fact that this only seems to be an issue with notes sent to the default notebook.

I'm definitely using the latest version of the Windows and iOS clients. If I don't get anywhere with Evernote technical support I'll consider uninstalling/reinstalling, or I may just decide I'll have to live with the issue. In any event, thank you for your help.
