Codes Disappear in Notes?! Code snippets notebook GONE!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've been using Evernote since 4 years now.

Since the past week I've been noticing I can't save lines of code in my Evernote. They just disappear after syncing. What's worse is, I had a Notebook with a bunch of code snippets - just a few lines of code for highly specific scenarios mostly in PHP, HTML and JS. These are codes I need to re-use, probably 4-5 lines of snippets that I used to store in the Notebook. The whole notebook DISAPPEARED! :(

I've also noticed I can no longer save hash keys or tokens in Evernote.

Is it a recent change? Do I need to move away from Evernote?

Anyone has suggestions for an Evernote-like service that supports code?

I moved your topic to the "Windows Desktop Help" forum, assuming that you are referring to the EN Win client/app.
If you're not using EN Win, please let us know and it can be moved to the appropriate forum.

I don't know of any (but I'm sure there are some) snippet managers for Windows.
I use these on the Mac:

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out

I forgot to mention another tool.  While it is not strictly a snippet manager, it can be used for one, and much more.
See Typinator.

I have a colleague who uses Typinator extensively, and raves about it.  It has excellent search feature, and then can auto-expand/paste into whatever document is frontmost.  I am in the process of moving all of my snippets to:

  • Typinator
  • Mac files
    • With the use of text tags (like @EN) in the file name and/or contents, I can quickly find the snippet file I want by using either Spotlight directly, or a Finder Search (that uses the Spotlight technology).
    • Once I have found/selected the file in the Finder, I can quickly open in any app by using LaunchBar, another great tool.

If you are interested in Typinator, you can get it, and 6 other apps, for $20 at BundleHunt.

Its very unusual for a notebook to disappear
I would check the master copy using the web platform (www.evernote.com)
When a notebook is deleted; the notes are moved to the Trash and can be retrieved

Not a service, but I wonder if the note format is the best way to store code?
I use a text file attachment to a note
-  it preserves my code without adding underlying html code
On the Mac and iPad, I use the app Textastic to view/edit the code
- its a text editor and includes syntax highlighting

Can you give us an example
