Please, bring back the automatic note title option

RosRiha

Idea

Title says it all: even if Evernote support says they were not happy with how it worked (well, me neither:-), it was still good to have it. Quite often it clicked and was ready to use. And it was very easy to override it with my own note title. Because of that I do not quite see the reason why to discontinue it - it was not mandatory, it was just an option - sometimes very handy.

Please, see the discussion I had with the support:

Hello Ros,

Thank you so much for contacting Evernote Customer Support. My name is Ava, and I will be happy to help you today.

I understand that you were looking to enable suggested note titles in Evernote for your iPhone.

This feature was removed with the most recent update because it wasn't quite working the way that we preferred. We decided to give you more control over how to title your notes, rather than using an algorithm to suggest note titles based on location, calendar event, or note content.

Evernote's development team remains small and we wanted to concentrate more on our core values in order to provide you with the best note taking experience possible. I understand that the updates do take a little bit of an adjustment period but, we truly believe that they offer the most intuitive user experience on our iOS application to date.

I will make sure to mark this on my end with your ticket but I'd also encourage you to post this on our  Evernote User Forum, where you and other users can suggest new feature ideas, and vote for them.

While we can't guarantee all feature requests or design ideas will be implemented, our development team regularly reviews product feedback submitted through the Evernote User Forum.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,

Ava H

%subj% says it all - on the latest version automatic note title suggestions do not appear. Is it some setting (where?) or was this feature discontinued? Thanks Ros

This isn't a solution to your problem, but you could easily create a script in the Workflow app that would have similar functionality.

EDIT:

There. I did it for you. This workflow, when run on iOS, will create a new note in Evernote with a title based on your current calendar event. If there is no current event, then it'll use the current location as the title.

I really, really, REALLY hate the loss of this feature. After 2 weeks of meetings I now have a bunch of notes unhelpfully labeled "Note". This is not what I call "the most intuitive user experience on our iOS application to date".

Totally agree.  I find that at the beginning of scheduled meetings, I am distracted by trying to capture the meeting title and context.  thought the feature was great and would be ideal as a toggle, if it was such a problem for others.  Please bring it back!!

Definitely bring this feature back. The power of search on titles is simply necessary. I use the same titles for regular meetings etc and the suggested title means I keep consistency and know I'll find it later. Since the update I have to really think hard about the title I previously used.

I actually can't believe this was removed.

This are the missing features that make me seriously consider passing to Bear or other nite taking apps.

It’s like you’re NOT using your own app.

Do you want to remove the automatic titles?

Ok, then when I create a new note put my cursor on the title so I can enter it, not on the note. Otherwise if I don’t want to have a useless “Note” title I have to manually select the title and edit it, which is cumbersome.

otherwise, use the first line or the first few words of the note as a title, which for me is good. And this is by the way just what other note taking apps (read Bear) do.

it’s so natural and obvious that I keep asking myself how could you not already modify the Evernote app. At least to add a setting to let everyone set the app as he prefer, which would be the minimum.

I keep waiting for better times.

Is there a way to do this using the new Shortcuts app?  If so, do you have the script?  I don't know how to write it on my own.  Thanks!
