Evernote Sticky Notes - activation link problem

Recommended Posts

Hi
Few weeks ago I have started using Evernote Sticky Notes. Everything was fine till last weekend, when the app failed to sync on one of my laptops. To deal with that I deleted my user account connection and tried to request new activation link from Evernote, but after clicking  button, only thing, which I got is error: Remote server returned an error (411) length required.
I have tried to reinstall Sticky Notes, uninstall and clean register, uninstall, clean register and install older version of Sticky Notes, and nothing is working. Requests for activation from Google or Dropbox are working.
Anyone have any good advice?

I am having the same issue, I really hope the developer fixes the issue. I rely on this sticky notes product as well. It must be some change to the API to get the activation link. The developer doesn't seem to have any contact email that I can see....

Yesterday I tried get activation link again and problem disappeared. Everything is working normally. I didn't do anything particular to repair Sticky Notes, so I can only advice You to wait and check it from time to time.

If this is an "Evernote Sticky Notes" problem,  that's not an Evernote product,  as has been mentioned above.  Evernote can't help.

As @gazumped stated this is not an Evernote product. There is nothing that Evernote can do in regards to this product not working. I recommend reaching out to the developer of the app and see if they can walk you through the issues you are having.

Their email is on their website. If you scroll down and click "Get in Touch" I've listed it below as well for those who can't find it.

I'm from Germany. Please excuse my writingerrors.

I have the same Error-411-problem with Sticky Notes and the activation of my Evernote account. I get in contact with Evernote-facebook, they are sorry, because they can do nothing?! The error 411 ist an Error of Sticky Notes?! I thought that an Evernote-Server sends the activation link for my Evernote account. Or is it an Sticky Notes Server? I only want to understand and also it seems that Sticky Notes and the site: http://stickynotes.edo-soft.com/ does not exist anymore. So, by the way, there is also no support to get in contact?!

Are You sure that it is an Sticky Notes Server which sends the activation link for an Evernote account? Because I get an activation link for (from?) google drive. Without the error 411. I can also synchronize Sticky Notes with my Google Drive account. When it is an Sticky Notes Server error, why it make trouble with the Evernote account and not with the Google Drive account. Because of this i think that it is an Error of the Evernote-Server. Am I right? If not, why?

It looks like existing installs of Sticky Notes will carry on working, but new ones won't.

You could also use the option to sync with Dropbox or Google Drive option in Sticky Notes.  (Of course it won't sync with Evernote, though!)

If you're desperate for syncing with Sticky Notes to Google Drive or Dropbox to Evernote, you can use IFTTT or Zapier (can't remember which) but I could only get one-way sync to work.

I made a new Sticky Note installation work by doing the following actions.

The only thing you need is a working and activated Sticky Note installation.

1) download the Sticky Note executable from the internet

2) Zip the existing working Sticky Note folder (I closed my Sticky Note before zipping --> avoid possible file locks)

3) export the registry key at [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\EDO-Soft\Sticky Notes]

4) Install the Sticky Notes (1.5.9) on the new computer and close it completely when asked for the activation

5) unzip & overwrite the files in the new Evernote Sticky Note folder with the old files

6) double-click on the reg file you created previously and add it to the registry on the new computer

7) start Sticky Note on the new computer and it should work

This workaround is only viable as long as the key is activated, my key expires in June 2017.

You can find it in your Evernote Applications tab.

I hope somebody will develop or support Sticky Notes further, I find it a really useful addition to Evernote.

Maybe Evernote can develop something like Sticky Notes or incorporate the application completely

What is the "Sticky Note executable ..."? English - German translations can sometimes cause errors.

This is a product produced by another company.  It no longer exists.

Why doesn't Evernote release something this easy?

Hi.  There was a discussion in another thread about the benefits of having a 'hit squad' of specialists ready to leap in and deal with quick fixes and new features,  but given that every business these days employs only as many people as it needs,  and there are millions of folks out there suggesting little tweaks and add-ins,  how do you prioritize?  How do you cope with the fact that a hit squad will tromp all over routine plans and maintenance?  Like TANSTAAFL - there's no such thing as 'easy'.

This feature might be on a hit list of things that Evernote will do at some time,  but they don't (usually) comment on what's in the pipeline.

The program was already working for many people. Only to be hit by an API change and thus returning this error. It turned out Evernote sponsored the creation of that piece of software. If they could obtain the source code the only thing to do would be making the program work again.

It's a good idea, or someone else could take over

How much do you think users would be willing to pay for such a service.

I think if they made it donation ware or even $1 or 5-10 dollars they would have made a nice sum by now.

But I think it's a dead end now. No contact at all and they pulled everything.

Already changed my own workflow, I'm using the web interface for my desktop usage. I miss the convenience of the yellow post-it's, but I can live without.

Hey guys,

I am having the same problem, I just installed the sticky notes today and I am having trouble activating it. Any help please.

Thanks

Hi - please read the thread.  This is not an Evernote product and the original developer no longer seems active.

Sorry, simply cannot understand why some people cannot accept that freeware apps are something nobody has any right to expect time and money being spent on by the original developers.

If I am dead concerned for an app to go and on I have to encourage the originator to keep it going. Seemingly all 'taking it for granted' or put more bluntly adapted from a bygone advertising slogan by Mediamarkt.de and now used in everyday German Geiz ist geil - (as long as it does not affect my pay cheque or working hours)- Google will translate if require- is a world-wide syndrome in the "better off countries".

Anybody aware ot the policies of Microsoft as regards the future of 32-bit apps will not waste his/her time, let alone money because the days when Microsoft will enforce "Store" are not too far away.

Going by the latest Evernote beta I see no hope for stickies being an immediate enhancement. A calendar app such as Google calendar serves my needs, synchro included, Evernote web clipper the 'saviour'.

As they say 'always look on the bright side of things....'

The software isn't working because Evernote changed their API and the developer of Sticky Notes didn't update their application to work with an updated API. I have reverse-engineered the Sticky notes software and managed to get it working again. I will post the updated software to my blog in a day or two, because I am preoccupied with work right now. I will also post a link to the updated software in this thread.

The reason for the user account activation issues and the “The remote server returned an error: (411) Length Required” error message is an outdated OAuth library DLL file which resides in the Evernote Sticky Notes application installation folder. I have de-compiled it, updated the code inside and re-compiled it. Evernote Sticky Notes is now able to correctly communicate with the Evernote server and complete the activation / authorization process.

I am offering an updated OAuth library DLL file to the public on my blog, together with detailed instructions so even less computer savvy users can repair their Sticky Notes. An updated OAuth library DLL file is compatible with the latest version of Evernote Sticky Notes, that is v1.5.9.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post links to outside sources in this thread, so I encourage you to manually search for it on google - "evernote sticky notes error 411 getgui".

Same here.

Sticky Note was one of the main reasons I have subscribed to Evernote payable service. If this is not solved or replaced by similiar product, I'm out. :-(

The posts above yours include a fix for this non-Evernote issue.

I came her to post that indeed

http://getgui.com/blog/windows/evernote-sticky-notes-error-411-length-required-on-request-activation-link-to-re-authorize-user-account-sync-notes/

should fix it, Low_key you beat me to it!

Evernote, as a paid subsriber to your product, it's too bad that you just shrugged this off as a third party app rather than trying to help or even better still, providing this feature as part of the base product.

Hello All,

It looks like the API's have changed again. Kindly looking for the original expert who was able to fix this issue. Does not authenticate or update my sticky notes via Evernote API :(

Hi PatS,

On 23 April 2018, the Evernote Sticky Notes authorization script was taken down from the server at Edo-Soft.com, which resulted in new authorizations no longer working. I have examined the authorization process again and wrote a script that parses and displays the authorization token provided by the Evernote server. The mentioned script was uploaded to the getgui.com server, which means Evernote Sticky Notes no longer depends on the Edo-Soft.com server to finalize the authorization process.

You can download the modified .dll file from my blog, the link is below:

Best Regards,

Simon
