New iOS editor very slow?

I'm having the same problem. No issues with my Mac laptop or iMac. My Macbook Pro I'm currently using is on OS X Yosemite version 10.10.5, and I'm not having issues with anything on my computer, JUST Evernote. It used to work perfectly, I'm on the Premium version, and all of a sudden it all slowed down to a crawl. There is a 1-2 second delay in typing, which is rendering it useless since I use Evernote to generate written pieces and posts for my business. HELP??? What's going on? Anyone know how to fix it?

I do see an error of not being able to save to local caches. I cleared the cache but still there’s no improvement.

My experience with the iOS client for Evernote continues to worsen to the point where I only mainly use it as a read only system.

Ever since 8.0, I have been affected by nearly every bug including data loss, slow launch, multiple crashes, and now I’m seeing typing delayed for several seconds after adding it making it essentially impossible to type anything.

Maybe I need to uninstall the application restart my phone a few times

I’m still having a generally positive experience with the macOS client, and that’s why I continue to use the service.

Update: I reinstalled and now at least new notes are fast. There are still a few older ones that still have serious delays with text and continuous syncing activity.

However, could you do that after first reverting back to the previous version (well in fact for me v7 was slow too)

So which version do you want Evernote to revert back to?

>>or perhaps providing some direct links for users to download older versions if that's at all possible?

IOS won't allow this, but you can have backups if you have access to iTunes on a Windows/Mac

When I open the app, I cannot click on anything for a few seconds, very annoying. But after that waiting time, the app works well. I experience this problem both on my iphone6 and iPad Pro since v8. I still use Evernote for about everything in my digital life but it would be really nice if this issue was solved.

I will also report that my Evernote (v8.1.352228) is too slow to the point of being useless on my iPhone 6 and iPad mini 2. I have tried reinstalling the app, but it did not resolve the issue.

I have used Evernote (premium member) in three years and was very satisfied with this excellent app until the version 8. I hate to go over to another app because Evernote has so many good features, such as an excellent web clipper, cross platform sync, etc. This extreme slowness is a killer. I hope this issue will be soon resolved.

I install and reinstall and still it is pretty hopeless. I am using the latest v8.0.4 on iPhone 4. I click and count as it opens a text note. I write and wait to see a sentence typed out some time later. Only Evernote is slow on my iPhone. I have had no option to look for something which works and start to migrate my files...

I was happy with Evernote 7 which worked well. Can I have it back, please?

Great features, apparently. Evernote you really need to test your products properly before releasing them. I hope you read your pages.

Shortly I will have given up.

Sorry, I don't have the time to test this
I would expect the upload to take some time; I'm not sure the cache could handle this at one time

On an ongoing basis, my main filing notebook has over 10k notes
No issues with adding notes

Oh, look. A calm, intelligent, rational post! Thank you KrisGal. I think the goal here is to get the app to work better rather than ranting about it. (The internet makes that too easy.) I have experienced this very noticeable lag, too. It does seem like a syncing issue, and I agree it did not exist previously — at least not to this extent. I have a very fast broadband connection and, even so, have been seeing big delays in accessing notes, creating new ones, even editing existing ones. I seem the same kinds of delays over my Verizon cell network, so I don't think it has to do with network speeds. I will add that manually syncing seems to happen pretty normally -- just takes a few seconds for those arrows to stop spinning.

OmniFocus used to have these issues and somehow they fixed it. Perhaps Evernote should investigate how they did that.

MASSIVELY slow, to the point that I've gone back to making notes longhand when there's any urgency. And it happens every single time I click back into the app, not just opening a new note. There's a minimum of a 10-second delay every time I return to the app. Just nothing - no movement, no cursor, no response to typing. Does Evernote bother to test these big release's performance at all before they send it out?

There is no trick to replicating this bug - I think everyone on this thread agrees that it happens every time you try to do anything in the app on an iPhone (or iPad in some cases). I worked in QA, so I'm familiar with your needs re: reporting a bug, but the onus here is not on us users: it's a persistent behavior across iOS on many devices that happens every time we use the app. Period. No special steps. I click the Evernote icon, there is a 10-second lag. I close the app and re-open it. 10-second lag. I try to type in the open app: 10-second lag. You get the idea.

I have now had to leave Evernote after using it for several years.  It has become so slow, it's of no use to me.  It lags and stalls and stops responding for several seconds when editing and hangs far too long while I'm trying to get work done.  I have switched to OneNote and it's working like a charm.  And it has more usable features that I appreciate

I'm sad to go Evernote, but clearly there are issues with your platform.

I've been an avid Evernote user since 2008 and had Evernote Pro subscription for the past few years. I've been patient with the whole increase in cost given the superior offerings however this iOS lag issue is the last straw. Creating and editing a note is excruciatingly slow.  I too am looking at alternatives even though I'm not a big fan of Microsoft solutions. Google Keep works really well but I can't export Evernote content to that.  Anybody out there completely make the switch?

Evernote v 8.1.352228

iOS v 10.2.1

I have started to look for an alternative to Evernote. I thought first to use OneNote, but it is a terrible web clipper. Search function on Evernote is much better than OneNote. Besides I am not much a fan for Microsoft.

I have tried Keep, but it seems that it is not possible to make web clips with it on iOS devices. Web clipping and Search are for me most important features, together with a possibility to have an access to notes on the web. Evernote was a great product because it had a superb web clipping feature combined with note managment/organisation and syncing. But it is terribly slow! It is very hard to find an alternative.

Rigt now I am exploring the possibility to use Together from Reinvented Software or Yojimbo from Bare Bones Software, since I am only using Apple products and do not need a cross-platform note managment software. Both those products advertise many features that Evernote has. I have not yet tested those softwares, but it seems that Together can import painlessly all notes from Evernote! I have been familiar with Bare Bones Software in many years because their BBEdit is the best professional HTML and text editor for macOS, but I have not yet tried their Yojimbo.

I just updated iOS to 10.3 and the problem I mentioned two posts earlier is not resolved. It seems when I open the app, Evernote does not allow me to click on anything while performing its sync and after the sync will work properly without lag. Too bad I have to go through this every time I use the app. Anybody having the same issue?

I also experience extreme slowness / laggy response times throughout the evernote application on iOS. I am using the latest version of the app.

These including text / photo input on new notes, navigation to specific notebooks, navigation to search, navigation to tags. Overall the performance of the app leaves a lot to be desired. Get it together and fix this Evernote.

I am finding in v8.0.3.351959 running on an iPad Pro with a multi-thousand note Premium account, the content of which is downloaded for local storage:

1. Creating a new note allows keyboard text entry only after a several second lag (or sometimes not at all - the app will periodically freeze). This applies even after a power down and power up of the iPad Pro.

2. Moving from one note to another is much slower than in previous Evernote versions - the body text of notes appears only after a few seconds of delay/lag

3. text pasted into a note only appears after a sync has completed.

4. Syncs are slower than usual

5. Searches are slower than usual

Just keep your fingers crossed along with me that it's true and we get a functional update asap.

I am running an iPhone 6plus with iOS 10.2.1 and Evernote 8.1. All of 8 has run very slow for me, especially while syncing or starting a new note but 8.1 brought about crashes when I try to scan documents. It will bring up the camera and capture a picture, but the app crashes while formatting the document for the note 100% of the time. Is anyone else having the crashes as well, or just slowdowns? If I scan and format a document in another app and send it to Evernote everything works great, it's just while it reorients the picture in the Evernote app that it crashes

My app was very slow on my iPad, deleting and reinstalling fixed it.

I had to delete then reinstall the new version just to get it to work in the first place.  I DO NOT want to have to do it again.

As others have stated, on my IPad Air2 opening a note, choosing a notebook, editing a note, selecting a tag, just about anything I try to do involves at least a 5-10 second delay or more.  I have roughly 600 notes, none of them huge by any stretch.

This is getting so frustrating.  I used to love Evernote but it is quickly leaving a sour taste.  Used it so much I upgraded to the middle level.

Please EN team, fix these problems.

It take some time for Evernote to sync before we can work on the notes. It is unlike Apple Notes where it is available on the phone. You will have a problem if the network is unstable when u want to use it.

The point is that Evernote has been that way all the time, and it used to not have the lag problem. Also the lag issue happens every time I open the app or come back from another app, etc, regardless of my network state (even when it's really fast, e.g., at my work).

I have just updated my iPhone 6+ to the latest iOS (10.3) and Evernote is working very smooth.  It's responsive and has not lagged or farted at all.  I can select and delete copy and then instantly carry on writing.  It seems to be alive!!

How long this will last is unknown, but I'm very hopeful the long battle with this service and app may be over.

Do the iOS upgrade, reinstall the latest version of Evernote and give it a test drive.  I'm leaning towards the reality that this issue is over!!  Fingers crossed!!!

On my iPad Pro 12.9 (256 GB) I also experience more lag. Logging into EN often takes longer and getting to take a note takes slightly longer. Sometimes even a lag. I am more reluctant to use my iPad for notes in meetings and other situations where I need to make a quick note because I risk "falling behind" and find myself turning to paper again. I really hope EN will trim the come to make EN more snappe again.

Biut in general EN seems to be on the right path with the new initiatives.

I have to agree with the brutally slow speed of this latest version of ForeverNote.  I'm using a 6S-Plus, and there should be no lag when typing a note, but it's ridiculously slow.  If I select a line and delete that text, Evernote stops for at least 5 seconds while I wait for it to regain it's marbles!  Brutally slow to the point were I must find something else to replace it.  I'm hanging on, waiting for a major update, but if it doesn't come soon, I'll transfer everything to a project management software or use 'Notes' that comes with the iOS.   Right now, ForEverNote is my biggest mobile device frustration, and that's saying something!!

The update for the IPAD is the worst I've ever seen. I am also having the lagging issues. Every time I try to enter a note, I'm keep getting unable to sync message. Notes are stuck and won't synchronize, slow response, too many issues. My productivity has taken a huge hit and I'm now considering another program to switch.

I hate this version.  I have over 1500 notes, before I could leave a note and next time I opened Evernote it would still be there.  On iPad it closes then even putting in shortcuts or favourites I have to wait for it to open again.  As well as work, I use for creating knitting patterns which are then saved as PDFs - It is a nightmare having to reopen to see next part of pattern.  I would also like the recent list longer. I have used Evernote for over ten years.

My problem begins when I initiate a search for a note using iOS 10.2.1. on a 64GB 6 Plus.

I am not sure why was my post a waste of time. Do we not discuss the problem of Evernote's slowness and whether this is tolerable?

Some users are considering to switch to some other software, as several have said in this thread. I am still trying to find a decent alternative to Evernote given the problem of its peculiar slowness (lag), but so far I have not find a good software that have such rich features as Evernote, as explained in my previous post. I would welcome any suggestion for alternatives to Evernote if there is some good one.

Best regards,

Hi

i just tried Everything to reproduce the slow performance issue and maybe this would help

I disable all the network, both wifi and cellular data. I get back to Evernote again and boom! It runs smooth as silk! I have got my lovely Evernote back✌?

would this problem hang onto the network? I see the app "loading" all the time when I connect to my network, both wifi and cellular

I was just googling to see if anyone else had this problem. I have a premium account over iOS, android and Windows.

The Windows one is still just about usable as long as i don't try and use web clipper.

The Android one is unusable, the iOS one has some severe problems. I'm at a trade fair and just gave my iPad to a potential customer to type in her email and the keyboard didn't function at all so I had to get her to write it down on a scrap of paper.

After closing it all down and opening it up again I can now type with a lot of lag,  but this isn't good at all and it's been getting steadily worse for some time and seems to do so with each software upgrade.

I'm using an Air 2.

I agree, version 8 is terrible on my iPhone 6. It was fine before, but now it is approaching unusable (genuinely). It can take upwards of 2 seconds for the notebook list to start scrolling (i.e. I'm dragging my finger up and down the screen but the list ain't moving), 2 seconds to open a notebook after clicking, sometimes as much as 8 seconds of finger-dragging before the note list starts to scroll, you get the idea. In every area I've tried so far it is terrible.

I have used EN for maybe five years, have >4000 notes and maybe 10 notebooks, some of which I want available offline (which doesn't seem to be working either on my iPhone). I can't rely on it like this.

I will stick with it for a while in the hope that it gets back to its former zippiness, but at the moment it's not good people.

Evernote 8 is currently poor on my iPad Air 2, unusable on  my iPhone 4. In UK friends and colleagues have a similar problem -  it does affect just a few users here as claimed!

I have been a happy user of Evernote for four years.

I hope this is sorted out - I need this for work too so in a week, I will have to look for an alternative :-(

I've had to copy and paste my notes out of Evernote.  I have a lot of notes in Dropbox now, that are accessible from all my devices. And I have a backup of those files and notes that is archived with my TimeMachine backup.  If I'm going to spend money on a cloud service, it might as well be with Dropbox that also saves my smartphone photos and so much more.  I've used Evernote for a long time but it's so frustrating now that I can't stand using it. And Evernote keeps strolling along like there is nothing wrong.

I'm fairly certain the problems are network problems - if I let Evernote finish sync so it has all the note metadata and offline notes loaded, editing is smooth.

Despite having it set to sync on wifi only, if I try to use it whilst out and about, editing is woeful and I have the same lag problems you mention - typing is several seconds between each character.

Because I have so many notes, just downloading the metadata for them takes a couple of days so I am hesitant to try deleting and re-installing as readily as most people.

You can try deleting Evernote and reinstalling it. Be sure you sync up your date first, then delete the app, go to your app store and reinstall.  This may give you some speed back... but it won't last long.  Eventually it get's slower and slower as time goes on until you can't stand looking at the app any longer.  Delete it, reinstall and try again.

This used to be one of the greatest tools I used for all the organizing and media I needed to keep tabs on, but now its a total frustration and makes my days worse.  I can't stand it!

Sadly, Evernote has offered no responses or words of encouragement that a re-write is coming. Nothing!  And that just adds more frustration to the whole mess.

I have moved on to OneNote.  It sync's well with ALL my devices, allows for organizing information logically and also the use of visual tabs helps.  The great thing is, it works FAST.  I can jump into that OneNote App, take notes, adjust notes and it's instant.  With Evernote, I was waiting and waiting and waiting for the app to come alive and that's embarrassing when you're in a meeting or working with a client. And it's so frustrating when you're on the move, in a hurry and then you can't move forward until Evernote wakes up.

No more... I'm out! It's just not worth hanging on any longer. It's been months and no response from "ForeEverNote".  If you don't care, why should I ?

Same problems here. Use Evernote constantly for memos.

I was using Simplenote before and that had a great sync between iPhone and MacBook Pro.

This Evernote just seems super slow and basically useless.

Will try re-installing evernote on both devices, if doesn't work I'll move back to Simplenote.

All-in-all Evernote is a bit too heavy these days since it's nearly incorporating Slack and Word into on note taking app...

Same here, dog slow on same version (8.1.352228). After loading, I cannot use it for 30 secs. Then, when creating a note of receipts, takes 20-30 secs for each receipt to be added to the note; I'm left with my iPhone hovering over the next receipt, waiting for Evernote to store the previous and make the camera ready. All my other apps are behaving normally. I have 35 Notebooks containing 235 Notes. Small.

Talking directly to Evernote here:

First, you have a problem on your hands. Second, your response is inadequate as it has been on previous issues you've had with shoddily tested releases (one of which I personally know you had to roll back).

So a.) a big mea culpa "we didn't test this properly" is in order - instead of, "the onus is on you, our customers, to prove the problem and fix it yourselves" + very little follow up communication on threads like these where customers are leaving, and b.) get a real Q&A team or test bed or whatever is missing that this, um, "stuff" keeps happening and alienating your paying customers.

(I'm still waiting on the fix for all the basic formatting you broke with your last desktop release btw. Man.)

Yes! I was having distressingly long response to all aspects. Deleting and reinstalling was my last resort, but that seems to have fixed it. Thanks.

Update: This did not fix the editor problem. Cannot use editor at all as it freezes up after just a few words. Also, after a few days I notice Evernote slowing down again. Looks like soon I'll be back to the same lag. Cache problem?

The entire iOS app that was just updated seems very slow and buggy to me. I having a hard time trying to use the app. Perhaps this is an issue with specific devices? My iPad Air is experiencing slow response: i tap a note card in the left column. The title of the note appears relatively quickly, but the body of the note lags about a second or two before displaying. This is new since the updated interface. Before I had no complaints about response. Felt very fast.

On the otherhand, Evernote is still fast on my iPhone SE. Maybe its a difference in processors?

Both are working with offline notebooks. I tried turning off offline notebooks and the reenabling but it didn't make a difference. That said, i might. Ot have waited long enough for the iPad to clear the memory.
