Local Database got corrupted...

Hi 

My local Evernote Database got damaged and my backup is a few months old. 

I mainly use Evernote web/ iPhone to capture things on the go and then, when I get to my Laptop I move everything to my local Database.

Are you using local notebooks or is the master version of your data on the Evernote servers?

Now when the local DB is damaged or lost, I see that you have a note history feature. 
   Im presently a basic user

           If going premium helps me recover note formerly added to one onlinefolder

                                then moved to an offline folder

Can we get back to the Local Notebook question

If not Local, then your data is sitting on the Evernote servers

What is your understanding when you say "moved to an offline folder"

Data might be on the servers in the form of note history, even if a note is deleted?

Data might also be on the servers as notes visible when I log in to Evernote online.

Which one of these do you refer to?

Lets put Note History aside for now

If you log into the web platform (www.evernote.com) do you see your notes?

To get from the web/phone to your local database, the notes get stored on the Evernote server.
The only way to remove them from the server is to delete them or move them to a Local Notebook

Note      Local Notebook is not the same as Local Database

A note created on the phone,

synced to online,

moved to local notebook on PC

      on basic

 

is there a note history for all the notes formely online that I can access if I go premium?

A Note History archive is maintained for your notes.
The history is only deleted when you delete a note (or move it to a Local Notebook)
You can subscribe to Premium for a month to access Note History

I'm a user just like yourself
Evernote employees sometimes pop in, and are clearly indicated under their picture

I'm definetly nor sales-like, and didn't mean to be aggressive.

Just trying to get the facts from you on your "local database"
I have local databases on my iPhone and Mac; 
- they are copies of the master version on the Evernote Servers
If my local database gets corrupted, I simply rebuild it from the Evernote servers
- The rebuild does not include local notebooks or unsynced notes

Delete your local copy of the database (your .exb file); Evernote will rebuild it the next time you login.

The rebuild does not include Local Notebooks or unsync'd notes.

I hope it is all right for me to join this thread with my question, if not, simply ignore :). I am on a different knowledge level so need to ask some basic questions to find a solution. To capture and store on Evernote (premium) I use the web version (mac) and iphone. My question is: Do I need a back-up? I thought that using the web version means that is already backed up in the cloud, somewhere, somehow ... 

If I do need to do a back-up, how would I do that? And where would you recommend?

You also talk about 'local database' - Is this the HD on the computer? Why would you want to do that?

Welcome to the discussion.  Questions are always welcome.

You can manage without personal backups (except for Local Notebooks)
By using Evernote to store your data, you have implemented top level backups, performed by Evernote at the servers.

Some of us add another level of security.  
This is more easily done on the Windows/Mac platforms which have an export feature.

Yes

The master version of our data is maintained on the Evernote servers (cloud)
- The web platform accesses the server data directly.
- Windows/Mac platforms maintain a full copy of the data as files on the computer.
- IOS/Android platforms have an Offline Notebook option to maintain a copy of the data as files on the device

1. Offline access when no internet is available.  Or Evernote goes dark.
2. The Windows/Mac platforms provide a full set of features.  
   It's a much better experience than using the other platforms.

To recover something that you accidentally delete and empty from trash you need your own backups.  If that is not a major concern, then you can get by entrusting backup to EN.  You have to backup any notebooks designated as local in any case.
