There have been several recent problem reports about Chrome Clipper not working with latest stable Chromium 18. I have confirmed the problems.
The root of the problem is that:
- The latest Chrome Clipper (v5.6) is unreliable with anything prior to Chrome 21.
- Chromium, while a component of Chrome, is updated less frequently than Chrome.
- The problem also exists with the current beta clipper (v5.7).
A workaround for the problem is to switch to the Google packaged Linux Chrome browser. The Linux version is maintained by Google in a .deb repostitory and updated concurrently with the Windows and Mac versions.
Tested in Ubuntu 12.04 and Mint 13 without observed Linux specific problems.

BUG: Communication Errors after Web Client update
09 August 2012 - 11:52 AM
Got the usual alert after last nights maintenance of web client.
Reloading client resulted in persistent "Communication Errors".
Closing and reopening tab did NOT fix problem.
Finally fixed problem by Exit Restart of browser.
Seen in Win7/Chrome 21.

TIP: In praise of Copy Selection (Win+A)
08 August 2012 - 01:07 PM
Been fighting web clipper selection and formatting problems in a few sites in Chrome and Firefox.
Those problems are gone if I use the Windows client Copy Selection shortcut (Win+A).
It even populates sourceurl correctly.
Still have a few sites, e.g. Flash sites, which need screenshots. No problem. Win+PrintScreen to the rescue. Just remember to clear selection before taking the screen shot (you will get an annoying background if you dont).

BUG: Empty clips from Chrome
07 August 2012 - 08:48 PM
I have been getting bad clips from Chrome 21/Windows 7 since about 10:00 EDT today.
e.g.
Tested all clip options including context menu.
Updated to 5.6 clipper yesterday but clips were working after update until this morning.
Noticed problem when I was processing my Inbox for today. Testing other browsers / systems ...
...
Working in Firefox 14.01
Retesting Chrome....
....
Worked this time clipping this post.
Retesting with previous bad clips...
...
Problem may be URL and browser specific.
e.g.
http://music.cbc.ca/...s-Common-People
Any clips from that URL fail in Chrome and work in Firefox.
Context clips from GMail are also incomplete from Chrome.
PS: Using View option on clip notification to check recent clips. Normally don't bother.
e.g.
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?> <!DOCTYPE en-note SYSTEM "http://xml.evernote.com/pub/enml2.dtd"> <en-note> <div style="overflow:hidden;"> <div> <div> </div> </div> </div> </en-note>

Images clipped from behind a login wall are inconsistently visible in notes.
