How to re-set up Google Autenticator

Hi,

 

I use Google Authenticator in the past and then change my phone. I would like to enable Google Authenticator on my new phone but cannot find the barcode to scan.

My question is How to re enable Evernote on the Google Authenticator app?

 

Imagine you are traveling and cannot get the code by phone. All your travel information are in Evernote and you log out by mistake. You will be in big trouble, right?

If are for some reason unable to use the authenticator you can always click on the "I need help with a verification code" link underneath the request for the authentication code which takes you to a screen where you can get a text with a code, use a one-time code (I have all my recovery codes stored in 1password so I can always access them if I need them if my two-factor device isn't near me or is lost/stolen/broken), or contact support. 

 

I think you might then need to disable, then re-enable two-factor in your security settings to get force it to display a barcode again. 

 

 

Someone who has gone through this might be able to chime in with a more efficient way.

Thanks Scott. I have also my backup codes stored in a security software but would like to use the Authenticator.  It is the easiest way to  sign in.

Oh yes, authenticator is ideal. I hope that you can re-set-up authenticator by turning off two-step verification and then turning it back on again to set up your new device. You may also want to contact support to see if they have some "official" way of setting up new devices.

I chatted with support but she did not know exactly how to find the barcode that we need to add Evernote on the Google Authenticator

I can confirm that deactivating, then reactivating 2-factor auth gives you a fresh barcode for your phone app.

In the EN web app, in security settings, if you disable 2-step verification and re-enable, just follow the steps to set up. At one of the steps, you can tell EN which device type (Android, iOS) you are using Google Authenticator on, and then EN will provide a QR code, which you scan using Google Authenticator on your phone.

Thank you Tavor. I tried to re-enable the 2 steps verif. but the web page did not ask me the type of my mobile operating system. So, unfortunately, for an Android user, there is no way to re-enable the 2 steps verification using the Google Authentificator

I'm using an Android phone and was able to re-enable 2 step verification. Not sure why it didn't work for you. Maybe list each step/prompt from when you first click to re-enable 2 step verification, and someone can spot the issue?

 

Come to think of it, I had to do it twice to get it to work - for some reason, the first attempt at re-enabling didn't succeed (I recall I used a relative's cellphone as a backup phone and got a verification code from this person, and when re-enabling didn't work, I redid it, but without entering a backup phone number). But I did get the QR code on-screen both times.

Never mind, I found it. I don't see green very well

If you want to get a new barcode, go to EN app, and Account Info. Click the top button, More Account Settings. It will open in Safari. In the menu bar on the left side, look for Security Summary. You'll see Two-Step verification is enabled. Click Manage Settings button at the bottom. Just turn on text message verification and then return on Google Authenticator and you'll get a new barcode and you set up Google Authenticator on you iPad or iPhone.

Can anyone tell me where this is in the current app? I just upgraded to an iPhone X and want to use my authenticator apps again but can't see how to turn off/on 2FA now.

Hi All, I have this - or a similar - issue... (either way, it about gaining access to your account with 2-step)...

I have a PRO account and have 2-step Auth enabled. I also have a backup device registered as my Mobile phone. I have lost my back up codes.

Recently I changed mobile provider, got a new number and new phone. So, have no longer got access to either the Authenticator app or the mobile number associated with my account. I still luckily remain logged into my account via the app on my laptop.
But I can't find anywhere, or any way to disable and reset 2-step authentication and/or change my mobile number without first using a 2-step code to access the security part of my account details.

Any advice or help would certainly be appreciated.

Thanks for the advice. Agree Twitter is the best customer service channel.
As it goes I did contact CS but they told me they couldn't help and there was no way to re-access or de-activate the account without me having a way in.

I luckily just managed to fix the issue by logging in with my Google account (had also enabled this) which allowed me to change phone number etc. without needing to use 2-step authentication - which is odd, but good.

But other than that, there would have not been any way to access the account.
Other apps, where I've mistakenly had this same issue (for the same reason: change phone, change device) have been able to temporarily disable 2-step verification for me once I prove my ID. But not Evernote, who tell me they have no way to ever access the account ever again.

So beware!
