Saintdismas 2 Posted February 24, 2014 Share Posted February 24, 2014 Over the last few months, as I take pictures (which I store on the SD card), I keep getting warnings that I don't have enough memory to display the image that I've just taken. So, I've deleted apps and then I can view the images. Each time I have to do a mental triage of what app I need least and delete it. It has started to get to where I have very little on my phone as far as apps are concerned. I thought it was an issue with photo storage but all the images are getting stored on the SD card as they should be. So I was really confused on where all my memory was going. I've finally figured out where. Evernote! In the last day or so, I've started getting warnings that EN is running out of memory. In the last week, I haven't changed anything on the phone as far as apps go. I also haven't taken any pictures. So essentially nothing has changed as far as memory but EN is now complaining. So, EN's memory use must be growing. I've checked the storage settings on the phone and EN seems to be stopped at around 17MB but still wants more if these errors are to be believed. I checked the knowledge base and it says that pdfs and other things can be stored on the SD card via an option in EN on the phone but I don't see that option anywhere. I've gone through every menu screen in EN. I also don't know how I can tell EN to keep eating up all the memory on my phone. So, is there anything I can do? Thanks! Link to comment

This topic discusses it, with input from Evernote staff. What's the Knowledge Base article you're referencing? Is it this one: http://evernote.com/contact/support/kb/#/article/23168602? I am not sure that that article is correct. Are you using offline notebooks? That would cause memory usage to grow, as notes would be guaranteed to be cached on your local device. Link to comment

Level 5* gazumped 11,652 Posted February 24, 2014 Level 5* Share Posted February 24, 2014 Yeah, that blanket "store things on the SD card" option turns out to be more confusing than it should, and I think the actuality has changed a few times. When you say your pictures are stored on the SD card - is that because you have changed Evernote preferences, or because you use a separate camera app which stores its pictures there? If you're using a separate camera app any 'insufficient space' errors you're seeing sound like they're more to do with that app than anything else. Evernote (AFAIK) can't use that space, and as long as you have some spare capacity, you should be able to take as many pictures as you'd like. Also: actual memory is not the same thing as permanent storage. It is possible that you have too many apps open at the same time, occupying too much current memory, to allow the picture to be processed for display. Have a look at your phone's instructions and work out 1) how to clear unused apps and caches from memory and 2) how to close unwanted apps. I have 16,000+ notes with a chunk of those set to offline storage and have never had a problem displaying pictures I've taken with either Evernote or my various camera apps. If you're having problems it's not an issue with Evernote, it's a problem with how your phone is currently set up. Link to comment

It's set to save to the SD card and never complains that I'm running out of memory. I can only suggest the memory usage is down to too many applications open at the same time as above.. Unless you have "offline searching" switched on for all your notebooks, Evernote does not save notes permanently on a mobile device. Notes are synced to the cloud for storage and only kept in temporary space on the phone which will be given up when it's needed. As I understand it, any restriction on what can be stored internally or externally is an Android thing, not an Evernote decision, so it's unlikely to change anytime soon. It's not a 'problem' with Evernote, it's the way Android works. Link to comment

Its definitely a problem with current evernote version which needs to be rectified Link to comment

The version 6 stores notes on internal main app memory, what troubles is that it doesn't even store it on internal (extra) USB storage.I too hope someone works on this because evernote 4.0.4 has very less features and is good only for slow mobiles Link to comment

I don't like that, because it requires one to have a large internal memory on a mobile device. However, I cannot even find WHERE Evernote is storing its databases. Are these files hidden? I can't find them in ES File Explorer. Internal memory Android/data/com.evernote/files/ shows only folders announcements and Temp, and a .nomedia file. SD card Android/data/com.evernote/files/ is empty. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook running Android 4.2.2 and Evernote v6. Link to comment

If not, then Evernote isn't storing information on your local storage other than the search index and some recently viewed notes in temporary memory. The notes will be overwritten by any other app that needs the space. Link to comment
