Is there an easy way to transfer to Wordpress?

Recommended Posts

OK, I think I already know the answer, but I'm a firm believer in asking for clarification.

I am really starting to get into Evernote and it has become, by far, my go-to source for my freelance writing work. I love the very basic/clean interface (I get distracted very easily) and that I can access it from all my devices (so I can I actually work when I have five minutes and don't have my laptop.)

I am in the process of launching a new Wordpress blog and I want to write my posts in Evernote as well. I know everyone so far says "Why not write in Wordpress?" The two main reasons are: 1. When I write in Wordpress, I often get distracted by the rest of the Internet world (I use a couple programs to help, but it doesn't solve all my problems). In Evernote, I'm not as distracted by everything else, I just write.  2.There are times when I don't have access to the Internet, especially with my tablet, which is wi-fi only. With Evernote, I can use offline mode (I have premium) and keep working.

The problem has been finding a way to transfer the information over. I realize (through posts here) that you can't simply copy & paste. I looked at postachio (I'm not sure where the "." goes) but I can't use my Wordpress blog, I would have to use one of theirs, which I don't want to do. I've tried a few things that didn't work already (email post to Wordpress, c&p to MS Word and post from there, create an IFTTT recipe to share a note & have it go to Wordpress).

Is there an easy way? Does anyone have a good idea? Like I said, I really don't want to write in Wordpress itself unless there is no easy work around.

You can also post to Wordpress via email so perhaps you could write in Evernote and then use the Share/Email command to get it to the email address you chose.

Here is info on posting to Wordpress via email:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Post_to_your_blog_using_email

One caution as I teach Wordpress and Internet marketing for a living. Evernote doesn't use heading 1, heading 2, etc which are important for search engine optimization. So I recommend you write in Evernote and the copy and paste it into Wordpress and set the heading levels yourself. This will help your ranking in search engines.

I've been looking for something similar.  I write for 3 different blogs and Evernote is the easiest way to keep the posts that I write for them organized without logging into all of their wordpress dashboards.  The best thing that I have figured out is to copy and paste from Evernote to Wordpress.  Some of the formatting is off but I use Evernote to just write and I do not format anything like using H1 or H2 until I put it into Wordpress.  This is my workflow...

Hand write an outline with an Evernote Moleskin, write piece in Evernote, Copy and paste into Wordpress, make finishing touches in Wordpress and schedule or publish.

Although I have not tested this, but in theory this should work.

Go to IFTTT, and authenticate both your Evernote and wordpress accounts.

I think that at this time, the only trigger for Evernote in IFTTT is a "copy public link " function .

Enable this trigger, so that every time you create a public Evernote link, this will be automatic posted to wordpress.

Hi Jacqui

I have recently started writing my blog in EverNote from a template, then copy / pasting to WP for markup and publishing. Im not sure what the issue is unless you are wanting a single button process from within EN? If you look at the template and process I derived mine from here - thanks Michael Hyatt - you can see there are numerous steps. This workflow and checklist really helped me although I use WP like you - not MarsEdit).

Ultimately someone will create a tool where we can do all the markup etc in EverNote and press one button, but for now I think it's a case of write the first text only drafts in EN and copy paste, as long as you use the insert text tool in WP ( the small icon that opens a window to paste your content). This strips any unnecessary codes before inserting into WP.

Does that help? Have a I missed the point? Until EN or some third party like Pistach.io come up with a tool to do all the same markup, image insertions etc etc that WP does I think you are better off with this workflow anyway. I use a great SEO plugin after I have all my text, headings, imagery etc sorted in WP and I cant see EN having all such functions incorporated easily.

Cheers,

Thanks everyone!

I tried the IFFT as one of my early attempts. The problem with sharing the public link is that again, it doesn't come over well. Not at all formatted right.

It's been a C/P job, which is what I kind of figured it would be unless I went to Post.achio.

I was really hoping for a plug-in or app that would connect the two, since I know that when I C/P, the formatting goes a little wonky. I've had a few posts where I've had to spend a good 10 minutes fixing the formatting issues, some of which don't show up on the editor, only when you preview/publish it.

I will check out the template you linked to, Peter. There are so many reasons I like to keep all of my work in Evernote, so maybe that will be the solution for the formatting problem when I copy/paste.

Well, after seeing that Postach.io won the Dev-Cup, I went and looked at it again. Several of the features that seemed to be missing a few months ago (or I couldn't find a few months ago, maybe) are now available. I switched to that. It's integrated already, which makes it much easier. Right now they can't import from WP or Blogger (adding it in the future) so that is something to consider.

I really like what Postach.io is doing, but I already have an extensive blog on WordPress, and WP offers an easier out of the box experience.

I'd love to see the Postaschio devs work up a tool that hooked EV into WP and other established platforms. I'd pay for that.

Postaschio works perfectly. I just don't want yet Another Blog, and to have it on a service that may not stand the test of time. Seems more ideal to hook into the major players instead of trying to establish a whole new platform. But maybe they tried. Maybe there is more to it than we realize.

The only other workaround I see is to email your posts to WP, and CC the EV email import address. But is really prefer to have the post in one main place (EV), and have the blog hooked into it so updates and revisions are synced.

Tried many of the mentioned services, did not like it. For myself, chose blogwith.co, allows you to copy the entire post, even with pictures.

Had not heard of this, just about perfect! Would like to see a way to save drafts, but this is the right path for the implementation we are all looking for.

has anybody come up with the best way to accomplish pushing Evernote to WordPress? I am in the process of trying out Postash.io and I've got their website synced with my Evernote, but how does this get to my WordPress website? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

The blogwith.co service mentioned by amik0 is the service that works the most as one would expect. It allows editing of posts. It's like Postach.io, but using WordPress as the blog engine. I've not had a chance to use it much beyond a few tests so I can't vouch for it.

Thanks for the information gcoghill...I'll give it a shot and see if blogwith.co is a better solution for us. We're trying to write our new user guides within Evernote and then post them to our WordPress website so we can easily update them in one place and then publish those changes to our WordPress site each time we update our software. I know you said you haven't tried it much, but do you think it would it's purpose to accomplish this?

I had the same puzzling question, on how to post stuff to my blogs through Evernote. I am really into Evernote and have become a big fan of postach.io, where I created my first Evernote powered blog, 60KThoughs but I wanted something that I could write my posts in evernote and have them there as the source and post them on my other WP blogs.

I tried IFTTT, cloudwork, but the one that seems to work better is Zapier. I was able to create a zap that posts to WP any new notes created within a specified notebook, with the tag published, same as pistachio does.

the Zap I created is here. The only thing is that It doesn't update the content if you make a change afterwards in Evernote like postach.io does.

Hi Everyone,

I had exactly the same needs. Fortunately, I'm also a developer so started to develop a Wordpress plugin that lets you post to it via Evernote. Think postach.io for Wordpress.

I'm currently in the process of launching this as a premium plugin and am looking to actively develop it. Please have a look at Everlicious.com and let me know if this is what you are looking for. If there are features missing or questions that you have I am more than happy to help.

Thanks,

Rheinard

Okay, I just started a blog - my first ever blog - with WordPress.  (Oh, I did sign-up for a Postach.io blog at the same time, but never got past my first post and have deleted that one.)

After reading this thread, I signed up with BlogWith and now I'm.....lost.  Unfortunately, I think I may have misunderstood the concept.  Can someone please explain how BlogWith is supposed to help me post to WordPress from Evernote?  Hope no-one minds my dumb questions...

Hi Wordsgood,

Happy to try and explain. If you've got a WordPress blog then Postach.io is not what you're looking for because they host the blogs themselves and has nothing to do with WordPress at all. If what you're wanting is just a simple blog and you don't wan't all the customisation and additions that comes with WordPress then Postach.io might be for you.

If you do wan't to use WordPress you have a couple of choices

  1. Email your Evernote notes to your special WordPress email address that you can setup in the WordPress dashboard (although you will need a separate email account for this).
  2. My plugin might be able to help you. It uses the Evernote API to convert notes into WordPress posts or pages.

See my official announcement of the plugin here: http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/53149-sentinote-an-evernote-plugin-for-wordpress/

Good luck,

Rheinard

Only thing you cand do now is Zapier.com.

And now there is Sentinote.

Thanks Rheinard.

As it turns out, the same day you sent this reply I also received answers to queries I've had out elsewhere for several weeks, and discovered much to my chagrin, that the blog I've been using for the last 6 weeks is not even a WordPress blog!

So for now, I'm just going to going to concentrate on migrating over to an actual WordPress site, and then once that's done, notify all the folks I originally invited to read it it of the new site's name and location.

But I may be back to look at your plug-in at a later time and thank you for thinking of me!

I face the same problem too. I found 3 solutions. 2 are free. 1 need money.

Free solution:

1. http://postach.io/ can sync your evernote notebook to your domain name. But it only allow us to post to subdomain or blog under www.subdomain.postach.io. It work great because can sync instantly with you note in your share notebook. It also allow us to use our own subdomain. The set up is supper easy. but we cant protect our note with password like wordpress.

2. https://zapier.com/. Work great to post new post from new evernote notebook to your own wordpress subdirectories (categories, page or post). It is FOC up to 5 task. But it cant sync with your evernote note. Mean any update for your note does't sync with your post in wordpress.

Pay solution:

1. http://sentinote.com/. I dint try this plugin. So no comment on it.

Hope this will help.

It would seem that Blog.with is for WordPress.com users - or alternatively you can connect self hosted blog through JetPack (if you are brave enough to want to install and use it).  I've tried JetPack and I find it too bloated for use on my sites.  You can certainly disable items, but they are all still loaded and some cause conflicts even though they are disabled.  It just isn't a viable option for me.

I'm not really looking for something to push Evernote posts to WP, but rather share my notebook as an alternative to a Flipboard magazine.  I would use Flipboard, but I want the entire articles that have been clipped or flipped to appear, rather than a user having to go to the particular clip online.

It can all get so convoluted as to what we each are trying to accomplish!

I'm going to check out eaTags - looks interesting so far.

Looks like Sentinote is now free, but that also means it may no longer be updated as the developer (who was posting in this thread earlier) has taken on a job where he can no longer maintain it.

That plugin looks perfect for my needs, but if not developed I'm hesitant to dive into it. Would have paid for it. It came and went before I even knew about it!

Nope, Sentinote is not an option, just to confirm. Doesn't work with WP 3.9.2, and isn't supported any longer, as @gcoghill stated.

Nor is Postach.io an option, because it is a standalone site and can't be integrated even with <iframe>, which would be potentially dangerous anyway.

For the life of me I can't understand why someone hasn't picked up this ball and run with it.

I'd pay for a good Evernote/Wordpress plugin, yes even in this increasingly freeware world.

Hi Jacqui!

There is a new integration between Evernote and CoSchedule to bring your Evernote notes, along with images, directly into WordPress. This is not a hack, but a supported method from both CoSchedule and Evernote to help you turn your notes into WordPress blog posts.

Here's a post from Evernote's blog to help you learn more: https://blog.evernote.com/blog/2015/06/16/plan-publish-and-promote-content-with-evernote-coschedule/

I write my blog posts under Evernote. It is perfect to categorize and find something later, also to work offline as you mentioned.

Best in my opinion is to copy/paste. Especially if you use a premium theme. I use Avada and their Fusion Builder editor.

If you apply a template to a page with text blocks, it only take a few seconds to copy/paste the text. Usually, I don't have issue with headers, especially if I use one of their fusion element "Title". It takes whatever text I paste and apply whatever header style I implemented in the template.

If a basic blog is what you want with limited customization, postach.io seems ideal. Otherwise, Wordpress takes a bit more time but works fine. :)

Why do you backup the site files twice? What files are changed exactly? I'm just wondering because I was just dealing with a live ecommerce site that I needed to copy & setup a development site for. I backed up the site files and DB, changed the URL, backed up the site files and DB again, then restored the original ecommerce site DB and the site is back up and looks fine.
