I've just upgraded, or so I thought, from an Android phone to iPhone 3G. It now has everything I want install except for Evernote because it's no longer supporting IOS4.

I appreciate things change and it's not viable to keep everything backwards compatible, but there's no need to deny access to people coming onto older platforms unnecessarily.

Can an older version be made available for download please?

TIA

I'm not affiliated with Evernote. I'm just an Evangelapologist. Evernote is an integral part of my life.

For Appstore compatibility reasons, we are unable to provide older versions of iOS clients.

However, there's this procedure that might help:

It would be very useful if you could provide the older files on your website though - I have an older version on an iPhone 3G, which has been out of commission for a few months requiring repair, during which time my TimeMachine back ups and old iTunes folders seem to have been over written as the back up disc was full. I am now afraid of losing my only remaining copy of Evernote, and was just about to upgrade to premium - little point if I can't use the software anymore.

Check out http://www.bridworks...tures/index.php it's a premium app but it does synchronise with Evernote, see my reply at http://discussion.ev...-3/#entry160425 for more info.

Thanks patb66 - I'm downloading the Lite version now, but the full version looks very affordable too - this may well meet my needs - daft really, because I would have happily stayed (and spent) with Evernote if they hadn't made the newest version incompatible with my old (but surely not obsolete!) iphone 3G.

As mentioned in the link I provided, they cannot provide multiple versions in the app store. As far as devices go, an iPhone 3G is pretty old. In order for the newer versions to support new OSes & features, that often means older OSes are dropped either because the newer features are incompatible or b/c the dev doesn't have the resources (time/employees) to continue to support old OSes. Happens all the time. IE, my image editor app of choice (that I paid ~$80 USD for) is not compatible with Windows 7. So I need to keep a Windows XP computer around or buy a new app. Them's the breaks.

As someone mentioned, you could still provide the files on your site can't you? Surely Apple doesn't control what you make available on your own web property?

Yeah, lets be absolutely clear. I have a 3G as well. This is not necessarily a cheap bit of kit. Why do we get ditched after some years because the technology has moved incrementally further along. The phone still works. How marvelously american of us and consumer of us to throw away that which is absolutely adequate for something which is not wildly more successful. What are we; supply-siders? Seriously. Do the right thing! Grandfather it!

Good on you TIA

Can you please clarify those reasons. I can't find a relevant rule in the developer agreements that would stop you from re-publishing an older version of the app as "Evernote Classic".

Is the guideline you refer to "Reverting to a previous version is not supported on the App Store in iTunes."?

This is pathetic  ...
I just bought a new HP laptop. It came with Evernote pre-installed.
Spent a whole hour updating my goals, notes, to do lists on my laptop evernote.
Then I went out and needed that shopping list I typed up on Evernote.
So I decided to open up my iPhone 3G app store and download Evernote... (nice finally something that can work on laptop/iphone unlike aNote)
and then to my utter disbelief... the message pops up... THIS APP REQUIRES iOS 5

Why on earth can't you put a 3G compatible Evernote app??? All my apps still update to latest versions.

Just so you know I am going to buy an iPhone 4S next week... but if you do not do the right thing and allow 3G users access to evernote... then I am not installing you on my 4S either... it's about principles.

Evernote I want to thank you for wasting my time.

Hi. Welcome to the forums. Your rage doesn't make sense to me here. Apple allows only one version of an app in its store, and Apple decided to stop supporting your device, so many apps now only support iOS 6, because they want to be able to provide the best experience possible. This is just how things work, and if Evernote did not continue moving forward, then it would be letting down its customers who have newer devices.

I don't like this aspect of Apple's appstore either, and I have been forced to upgrade from a device I was perfectly happy with because of it. Unfortunately, this stuff is out of Evernote's hands. If you are doing Time Machine backups, you will have previous copies of the app, and can install those. Please search the forums for details about what to do with older devices.

You can actually create new notes and access your current notes on an IPhone 3G, via Evernote Mobile. You just can't install the App.

(In fact, my personal preferred method of creating new notes on any mobile device actually is via this method, rather than using the app. I only ever use the apps to browse my existing notes, not to edit them. That's just me, though, YMMV.)

Open your Phone's email client. Enter your data, and format it however you want. Email it to your Evernote email address. (If you're taking notes during a meeting, you can take notes in your favorite notes application, then when you're done, copy/paste and email them to your Evernote email address). You can also email voice recordings and images in the same manner.

To view notes in the quickest fashion, go to http://s.evernote.com/mobile from your mobile device. It's not the prettiest, but it loads quick and does the job.

The problem with this method is you can't update a note in progress from the phone, so if I have edits I'll create a new note, and I'll just edit when I get to a computer - I'll merge multiple notes together, for example.

All answers provided in this thread are inadequate.
Basically, the best would be that Evernote provide older version of the app on their website. I do understand why only the latest version is available on the App Store, but it is showing some disrespect to users not to give them the ability to revert to older version for personal reasons.
The competition is tough out there and other services provide similar support. At least, Evernote could make their old versions available !

This is an iOS thread, right? What do you mean by providing older version on the website?

They can't provide older versions on the website - Apple does not allow distribution that way and it would only work for jailbroken devices.
