Hello all,

I'm starting with evernote. I sent a note to two coworkers from my browser using. On the bottom right of it I got a message saying "2 emails sent". However, I apparently have no way to retrieve them. This is weird. I hope they are somewhere (certainly not in my gmail account).

Could anyone please help?

Thanks

Hi. Welcome to the user forums!

If you sent an email from your Evernote account (I assume that you mailed a note, since you cannot send emails in the regular fashion), and your Gmail account is the one associated with your Evernote account (see your settings on the Web client at www.evernote.com), then I believe the email should show up in your "Sent" box. Is it there?

Emails sent from Evernote are sent from the EN servers & do not go through your email account. Therefore, they do not show up in your "sent" box.

Hello,

Thanks for replies. That's correct, they are not in my Gmail acc.

So that's the thing: How can I keep track of what I wrote in those emails? Is there a way to retrieve them from those servers? Feels weird to "lose" your own mails all of a sudden due to sending channel, which is meant to help organize things. Agg...

Except that they do show up in your sent box, right? I mean, I just sent myself a note and it showed up there and in the header it shows that an email went from Evernote servers to my gmail account associated with the Evernote account, and then it went on to the intended recipient from my gmail account. I don't understand the mechanism well, though. I'd be interested in knowing more about how it works. At any rate, there is an email in my sent box, and it appeared as soon as I mailed the note from Evernote.

As for keeping track of this stuff, just check the CC box when you share a note and it will send a copy of the note to you.

Here is some more info from a message in my Sent box. I won't paste the full header, but this snippet in the details view on Gmail should give you an idea. Is this only a Gmail thing, or is there something special I have done with my settings that I don't know about?

Hum, I'm not sure I got that choice from the web, I think not. I did get it from my desktop when I tried again though. I too sent a copy to myself to see what happened, and by the way, it showed in the outbox, although I'm not sure that word exists. Sent emails.

Thanks again.

Glad to help!
Does the "Sent Mail" in your Gmail account only have the one you sent using the desktop, or does it have other ones you have sent as well?

IME, no, the emails do not show up in your sent box. The only way to get a copy, IME , is to CC yourself. Unless this is a new/recent change.

I don't know if it is a change at Evernote or not. But, my emails from Evernote for as long as I can remember are in the "Sent Mail" box. Maybe I did something with the settings. Do you have your Gmail account associated with your Evernote account? If so, when you send a note, is it not showing up in your "Sent Mail" box? My suspicion is that this behavior is unique to the Gmail account, but I don't have enough email accounts to test this out for myself!

This just posted a few days ago by an EN intern. Maybe the web version behaves differently. And yes, my EN email address is a gmail account.

In the Windows client, when you right click a note and select to send the note to a user's email, you can choose to have it CC your personal email for confirmation. You won't find the email in your sent folder since it is not sent directly from your address.

I hope this answers your question.

Weird. I am sure the interns know more than me about what is going on there, especially on the backend, but that is just not matching my experience at all. I generally use the Mac client when I send emails, but I think I have sent stuff using the Windows and iPad clients as well.

In addition to the information I posted above from the email that is in my Sent box, in the recipient's header information (the email in their Inbox) it clearly says that it is from ME@gmail.com via Evernote. Is this something that only I am experiencing? If so, then I must have done something to a setting somewhere.

Basically, what I am seeing is Evernote sending an email to my Gmail account and then sending it on to the recipient. And, this is what it looks like from the recipient's end as well.

GM, I never use the Web service, so after seeing your email I logged on to my Evernote web.
(It's still clunky as ever.)

If I right click on the note and select Send Link, I will get this pop up.
http://www.evernote....dc1578bfcc2f734
GM, you might have checked the remember box so you do not see it any more.

If I accept the GMail option, it will open up my GMail account and allow me to send the link to a 3rd party.
And since it is being sent by GMail, the email will also go into my sent box.

This feature will not show up from the Windows Client. It only happens if someone is using the Web version.

Maybe that is it. I get every email in my "Sent Mail" box from the Mac and Web clients for sure. Perhaps I clicked a box like that on my Mac client. I don't know. I will try later on today with the Windows client and see what happens.

Presumably, though, the OP was using the Web client when they emailed the first couple of times, so those must have gone to the "Sent Mail" box, right? Otherwise (according to the screenshot you showed) the Web client could not have sent them.

As for the Web client, I think it is a huge improvement over past iterations. However, I have to admit that it is missing key features that would enable me to use it regularly. I much prefer the desktop and mobile versions for getting work done. Nevertheless, it is great that Evernote has the web version, because it has come in handy many times when I am not using my own device.

I guess I was not clear enough.

The pop-up I mentioned (with the option to select GMail) only appears with the Evernote web version.
It is called "Launch Application"
http://www.evernote....dc1578bfcc2f734

On the Windows client, if you select Share and then Send By Email, a different pop-up appears.
It is called "Email Note".
http://www.evernote....892d1d2508fb997
There is no link to GMail unless I select the "CC me on this email"

If I click on the CC option, I will get a copy in my GMail sent folder
If I don't click on the CC option, I do not get a copy in my GMail sent folder

I used the link shown in the attached screenshot with a red arrow, and what I got was a box with only send to, and text fields that you can see.

Like I said, the two mails are not in my gmail account.

Also, I'm using firefox and I have the evernote add on. So that may be it.

Best regards all.

Hi JB. You were perfectly clear in your answer. I am just trying to figure out what is happening. I just emailed a note from the Windows client. It did NOT appear in my Sent Mail box. I think the Windows client is the outlier (at least for me). I will do some more testing, but this is what I am seeing so far:

1) Windows
Recipient sees that my emailed note is from ME@gmail.com via Evernote. No email appears in my Gmail Sent Mail box.

2) Mac
Recipient sees that my emailed note is from ME@gmail.com via Evernote. An email appears in my Gmail Sent Mail box.

2) Web
Recipient sees that my emailed note is from ME@gmail.com via Evernote. An email appears in my Gmail Sent Mail box.

@Cauca
Thanks a lot for posting that, but the screenshot didn't seem to work for me. I'll try it again in a bit.

So, email in your sent GMail folder:

1.) Windows - no

2.) Web - yes

That jives with my tests.

Question:
In your Evernote Mac, is the pop-up option named "Launch Application" or "Email Note"
If it is "Launch Application", then I assume it is duplicating the Web version ability.

When I email with the Mac it looks essentially the same as when I email with the Windows client, but there could have been a time in the past when I agreed to some setting that is still in effect. From my experience and the information provided thus far, it looks like users with a Gmail account can have email messages appear in their Sent Mail box if they use the Mac or Web client (I'll check later with other mobile clients). Windows users do not have emails appear in the Sent Mail box. However, from the recipient's standpoint all of the emails, regardless of which client was used to send them, appear to come from the gmail account via Evernote.

The "via Evernote.com" part indicates (IME) that you are sending directly to the same email address linked to Evernote. OTOH, if you send the email to a different email address (than the one linked to EN), the "via Evernote.com" part is not included. It sounds like Gmail may be handling this differently when it knows it's sending from/receiving from the same email address. Or maybe if both email addresses are gmail - I've not tried this with another Gmail account.

IOW, if I email a note from EN to my EN associated Gmail account, the "via Evernote.com" part is included & does appear to be put into the Gmail "sent" box. If I email a note from EN to another of my email addresses (NOT a Gmail account), the "via Evernote.com" part does not exist & does not exist in my Gmail "sent" box.

So it seems to me the difference in behaviour can be attributed to Gmail & Gmail is putting the note into the "sent" box, not Evernote.

Ok, just sent from EN to a different Gmail account (one NOT associated with my EN account). That one did NOT show up in my Gmail "sent" box. So it seems to me, Gmail puts the note into the Gmail "sent" box when the send from/reply to are the same Gmail address. FWIW, it's my understanding that although the emails are sent from EN servers, they "spoof" the email addresses & this seems to be what Gmail is doing with the email, based upon the email addresses. Hope that makes sense.
