In the Windows version, the snippet view shows the date the note was created, and not the date is was updated. This is true even if I sort by updated date. Is there a way I can get it to show the date the note was updated instead of the date it was created?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks Aron. Unfortunately that's not my problem. I can get the list to sort by update date just fine, but I'd like it to display the update date in the blue lettering on the left side of the snippet. Rather it displays the date the note was created. Any way to change that?

to display the update date in the blue lettering on the left side of the snippet

- No way to do that at present, but if you have the note header open on the right hand side of the window you can easily see the updated date (if there is one) above each note...

I have the same issue. In Snippet view, the created date is the only one that shows. I decided to start using List View instead. In that view, I can position the update date as the left-most column, move the created date column all the way over to the right (because it's info I don't really care about), and I get the view I'm after. This is a good enough work-around for me for now.

I use the Snippet view and just modify the created date.

When I was using Evernote for myself this issue didn't bother me.

However, now that I use Evernote with my team every new user without exception asks "why isn't it sorting correctly". They sort by 'updated' but see the 'created' date in the snippet. I thought it might be just me but after seeing how other people react I can pretty fairly conclude that this is highly un-intuitive.

Evernote should seriously consider changing this behavior. Although... I'd be shocked if they haven't already considered it and chosen not to implement. Which leads me to this question...
When is showing the 'created date' when sorted by 'updated date' ever useful or intuitive?
This isn't a derogatory question. I'm truly interested in answers from other users.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Don't see that you can assume anything here - as we were saying in other threads before someone crashed the party, the Mighty Herd have fingers (major analogy fail!) in lots of pies and they probably have more than enough priorities already to keep them busy a while longer.. I'm not actually sure how I view the dates thing - it's kinda useful to see the created date, regardless of the sort order - shows how old some of the notes are. I'm sure you could work up a work-around by starting a new note and using links, or changing the title and sorting by title. Whether or not its a good thing, unless it was already in a pipeline somewhere I'm guessing you won;t see any changes anytime soon... :)

I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible so people will actually use it. Multiple notebooks/note links/title changes/etc. get highly confusing in a group environment causing people to give up on the system.
To combat complexity we are using a single note as a running dialog for client service. Every morning we pull up the Evernote client service notebook, sorted by Updated, to see anything new. The create date is useless in this case. Ideally the Updated date would show giving the user an idea of how many notes they need to look through.

Note name: Name of Client
Note content example:

11-06-12 JG, Call from John

-------------------------------------------

Some thing about the call. Blah blah blah.

11-01-12 JG, Call to Steve

-------------------------------------------

Some thing about the call. Blah blah blah.

10-17-12 JG, Email to John

-------------------------------------------

Some thing about the email. Blah blah blah.

Anyway... hopefully this gives some context to someone as to how things are used in a group environment.
Using List view partially solves the problem; too bad it forces the note/list panel to divide horizontally. :(

If you're using the Windows client, try hitting F5 when in List view - it jumps between horizontal and vertical windows.

If you're using the Windows client, try hitting F5 when in List view - it jumps between horizontal and vertical windows.

Ctrl + Shift + F5 is the one that swaps it ;)

Or hold shift when choosing list view in the menu next to the search bar.

F5 cycles through the different views.

Using the vertical list view, you could show titles and the updated date next to each other.

F5 does it for me - goes from horizontal list to vertical list to vertical thumbnail to horizontal list...

Huh?

That is odd...

Since it was added it was Ctrl + Shift + F5 and F5 has just been cycle through the 3 views. (Though once on vertical list it will stay on vertical until you change it off again using the Key combo.)

Awesome! Thanks guys. List View in in vertical mode with Updated and Name showing is a usable workaround.
Maybe someday there will be a random keyboard shortcut to toggle the date shown in Snippet view. :o
