I have seen various references to the location of Evernote files as being located in Program Files (or Program Files (x86)) and so you will understand my confusion to find my Evernote installed to:

C:\Users\Scott\AppData\Local\Apps\Evernote\Evernote

(nothing related to EN is in Program Files (x86))

Everything works as it should, I am just curious as to what the correct, normal installation location is?

Win 7 64 bit

Thanks,

Scott

I'd say it's possible to override the automatic installation if you wish and put Evernote wherever you like, so there is no 'official' folder for its normal home - but in situations where you're asking for or giving help, and you may want to compare file names or content with someone else who also has the same installation, it's usually better to go with the standard process so everyone's on the same page. That said, if your version is working fine, don't fix it!

I'm on Vista (I know..) and I have folders in both AppData and Program Files. I don't have an (x86) folder.

I can understand that, but I want to know what the default option is.
I wouldn't have installed in a location other than the default, so this difference is slightly confusing to me.

I don't have any issues, but I am wondering what it is, especially since I use the location of Evernote.exe in at least one of the notes in my shared notebook. I would prefer the default to be listed, rather than where mine is found.

You are on a 32 bit system then, Program Files (x86) is the folder used to install 32 bit applications on a 64 bit machine. (which Evernote is)

Not quite, notice the difference:

(This is the correct location for data files, and is expected.)
C:\Users\Scott\AppData\Local\Evernote\Evernote
-AutoUpdate
-Databases
-Dict
-Logs

This is the odd location that I would expect to be Prog Files:

C:\Users\Scott\AppData\Local\Apps\Evernote\Evernote
-ENScript.exe
-Evernote.exe
-etc.
-etc.

Yep. I did not read your post carefully enough.
No idea how it got changed but a full remove with Revo and re-install should fix the problem.

All is fine, so I will leave it for now...

But is the correct location in Program Files?

Posting for anyone else that finds this thread:

Just discovered the likely answer to my confusion. (I don't use an admin account)
http://discussion.ev...dpost__p__96883

xezar,

By default Evernote would install under the %ProgramFiles% for users with administrative privileges and under %LocalAppData% for users without admin privileges.
Previous installation location is also taken into consideration.

Thanks,
Max
