Hi all.

Long time, multi-platform Evernote user here:

I have a couple of questions relating to Evernote Metro on Windows 8 that someone might be able to help me out with.
  • How can we search our notes? It would seem that the "Search" charm has not been integrated. It simply says this app can not be searched.
  • How can we sort or order notebooks / notes?
  • Are the dev team going to look at subscribing to events that allow Evernote to sync in the background?

I'm also having trouble editing existing notes. I can create new notes, but not edit existing ones.

We've added in the ability to edit plaintext notes and append to rich text notes. Any other feedback would be greatly appreciated

Win8 preview and Evernote user here. As part of my Win8 evaluation, I am trying to do 2 things: 1) Store and use data exclusively in the cloud (Evernote, Skydrive, Amazon, Google, and Apple Clouds); 2) Determine whether I can operate completely with Modern UI and Browser-based tools. Evernote is a key part of that strategy. As I review each Windows 7 application I use, I am looking for an approach that would allow me to operate entirely without needing traditional desktop apps while on the road armed only with an ARM-based tablet (no pun intended). So far, so good with one exception: Evernote preview app.

Horrors because I am more and more centralizing things there and using it as my main integration point with my phone. One problem is that I cannot edit many existing notes. Notes with attachments won't allow me to open the attachments. Every time I start Evernote app, it tells me I am not using the latest version, offers me the option to update, and then when I select that, nothing happens. Even if I uninstall, re-boot, and re-install. Same message.

I know it is only seven weeks away, and maybe Evernote does not want to tip its hand, but before I get too far down this path, I'd like to know that Evernote modern UI app will be here for me. I would say that other than this one thing, and a simple Modern UI PDF editor, I would be ready to call this experiment a wrap and a huge success.

I'll still have my desktop/laptop with large keyboard and screen for real productivity use, but I am hoping to begin traveling very light (phone and tablet with one charger)and still be fully functional in a way that I have not been able to achieve with either my Android tablet or iPad (which have nice Evernoe implementations but not the other things Win 8 brings.

Thanks for posting. I'll try to address the issues you brought up.

One problem is that I cannot edit many existing notes.


We currently don't have a rich text editor in the "Windows Store" Evernote app. Building a rich text editor on each platform is always one of the hardest parts of launching on a new platform, so we're still working on it. There are alternatives to building it from scratch, so we're looking into those. It currently looks like certain components and/or libraries haven't made it over yet, which makes things difficult.



Notes with attachments won't allow me to open the attachments.

We'll be working on that as well.

It should be taking you to your updates page in the Windows Store. Does the store not even launch? Sometimes the store is down or unavailable so even though we've released an updated version of the app, the store isn't available to let you download it. Have you had any luck since you've posted?


I know it is only seven weeks away, and maybe Evernote does not want to tip its hand, but before I get too far down this path, I'd like to know that Evernote modern UI app will be here for me. I would say that other than this one thing, and a simple Modern UI PDF editor, I would be ready to call this experiment a wrap and a huge success.

Just as a general statement, launch day isn't the day we declare the product finished and we can go take a break. We usually already have new features and improvements in the works. The Android and iOS teams have had a bit of a head-start on us, but I don't particularly like playing catching. So we'll be pushing for feature parity as soon as possible.

I really hope that the Metro version will be able to sync changes in attachements. Lack of that feature really hampers the funcionality of iOS/Android versions.

We'll take a look at this, I think we'll be largely constrained by the Operating System

If I install the Win 7 version now onto win 8 so I have the usual desktop experience, will I have to uninstall it when the Win 8 app eventually gets to a properly usable working state?

The two are separate apps and you can have both running at the same time.

Its a shame that they dont use the same local database/cache as it's just using twice as much disk space.

Do you get stuck part-way through a sync? Or something else?

And yes, we would like to use the same database as well, but unfortunately ran into technical obstacles that prevented us from working that way.

Do you know if it gets most of the way through or not even close?

This is supposed to be a Preview of the finalized app (pretty much a Beta). You'll see ongoing improvements

About how big is your account? I have 2gb that manages to sync, but we are working on sync
