Hello all.

I am wondering if there are any add-ins for microsoft office's other products like the one that I have for Outlook. I find yhis feature very helpful to me. To duplicate thiws behavior on my PC I must print the document to a PDF page, then place it in a predictable location (in my case the desk top) then copy it into a page in evernote then delete the copy.

Alternativly I have a MacBook Pro at home with the latest OSX version and It has a way to print directly to a PDF and place ot in evernote. Either of these options would be helpful to me.

I have been using Evernote for several years and have over 1000 notes recorded there. I use it in my work to store code snippits (yea I'm a programmer and use SAS to analize data at the hospital where I work) I keep recipes that I find interesting, I record most of the receipts that I receive, as well as a myriad of other types of documents.

I love Evernote and really can't comprehend working with out the swiss army knife of PIMs.

Thanks,

-d

From anywhere you can print into the EN import folder; if you have a suitable PDF-printer (I use bullzip for this purpose) you can predefine the import folder of EN as the output folder of the PDF-printer, choose auto-naming and omit the viewing of the PDF output, and voilá, you have a one-click fire-and-forget solution. For MS products as well as any other program which allows printing :-)

Ok that sounds good. I have a couple of questions about the mechanics of setting this up:
  • Where is the EN Import Folder found?
  • Also can you be a little more explicit RE: you can predefine the import folder of EN as the output folder of the PDF-printer, choose auto-naming and omit the viewing of the PDF output, and voilá, you have a one-click fire-and-forget solution.
Thanks,

I don't know of any add-ins, but you can always use the "Copy Selection" feature (Menu > Tools > Options > Hot Keys) to quickly/easily create a new EN Note from a selection you have made in the MS Office document.

So, for example, in a MS Word document, if you wanted the entire doc as text in an EN Note:
(1) CTRL+A <==== select all
(2) WIN+A <==== Create EN Note from selection

re: 1. - I have the German version, therefore I do not know the exact terms in other languages. In menu "options" or similar (German: "Funktionen") you find the sub-menu "import folder" or similar (German: "Ordner importieren"), there you can define one or more import folders which are checked for new files by evernote. Various options regarding deleting files etc. available.

re: 2. - Having set a specific import folder for EN, you can use this folder as the folder your PDF-printer sends its file to. Some printers do open the new file, some do not. What I mentioned was a scenario where the PDF-printer creates a file, names it automatically and sends it to the EN import folder. Thereby the files move from printing directly into EN, without any further action needed.

Good luck, EvB.

This is also a good trick to use if you have a network-enabled fax machine or an all-in-one like the HP OfficeJet line. Simply set up a "Scan to Network Folder" and identify your import-to-Evernote folder as the target of the scan action. Anything you scan will be sent to Evernote.
You may want to do some title cleanup on Evernote after the doc's been scanned in, or you can just rely on the recognition feature of Evernote to help find the docs later.
