(Archived) HOWTO: Search in SourceURL field [ANSWERED]

I am trying to search within my over 10,000 notes for notes from a particular url/source. I would like to search for things that contain a particular word and DO NOT CONTAIN/do not come from a particular url heading, ie "facebook.com".

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to the forums, roserose. To search the URL field, you can use the searches

sourceurl:X (for all notes from URL X)

-sourceurl:X (for all notes not from URL X)

That search requires the full URL, including "http://www." If you search "sourceurl:facebook.com" nothing will come up, unless you've manually changed the source URLs to that.

So in your case you should use the search "-sourceurl:http://www.facebook.com*" (note the asterisk at the end, which makes the search "wildcard," meaning anything starting with http://www.facebook.com, not just the specific URL http://www.facebook.com).

The www is not used for some sites. Example:

WWW - yes:

sourceURL:http://www.drudgereport.com/*

WWW - no:

sourceURL:http://hotair.com/*

The "www" is generally not required (or the "http://" either, for that matter). For example, in Chrome, can get to Drudge Report just by typing in "drudgereport.com" into the search bar. In addition, I created a new note in Evernote, and set the source URL to "drudgereport.com". This worked, too.

I think what Peter is saying is that in order to match the sourceurl: target, you need to include whatever is actually there in the sourceurl field..

Seems like a search on just the Domain would be very useful.
