A new beta release of Evernote for Android version 4.0 revision 240638 is available for you now.
That's quite a radical change from the previous version. It offers a new navigation paradigm and a revisited UI.
We wanted the app to be easier to explore and provide a very quick navigation.
For those who want to take a video of their phone while there are discovering the new UI, you can send it to me directly.
You can talk aloud and share your impression, that would help us identify the usability issues you may encounter.
So, what new in this update?
- Video notes from the home screen or in the editor tool bar (phone)
- Home screen redesign and new navigation (phone)
- Action bar on notebook list, tag list, all notes and note view for quick access to more options (phone and tablet)
- Intuitive full screen mode switching when reading a note (phone and tablet)
- Ice Cream Sandwich inspired look and feel and user experience (phone)
Some known limitations & issues
- "Shared notebooks" are not accessible for the moment. It will be soon integrated in the notebook list.
- "Places" is not implemented yet. A second "Tag list" is here as placeholder.
- Video capture doesn't work on Android <2.3

Some comments:
- The title of the note is sometimes hard to read. This appears to happen when there is only an image contained within the note
- - Some examples:
- - http://www.evernote....54d57effa38b5dc
- When viewing a specific tag or notebook the collapse button sometimes doesn't work.
- - I think it happens when I lock the screen while Evernote is open, and when I return to EN via the running apps list
- - Once the screen is unlocked it is not possible to collapse the tag/notebook list
- - To fix this, I have to close EN and remove it from the previous apps list
- When viewing a specific tag/notebook, and viewing with the list collapsed, it is difficult to know what notebook/tag you are viewing.
- - In previous versions, there was a title at the top saying "Notes tagged tag" or something similar.
- - Now, you have to expand the list again.
- In the Notebook list, with the options button, there is the option to create a new notebook, would it be possible to add a similar function in the tags?
- - Currently, to add a tag you have to choose to tag a note (via a long press or editing a note)
- In the All Notes section, there is a note count. Please could this be added for other views?
- - I understand that each one has a count under, however when the list is collapsed, you can't see the number.
- When searching, the 3 buttons (new note, search, and options) are shown. Are these supposed to be shown?
- Full Screen and Expand Image to full screen share the same space, so when there is an image, finding the fullscreen button takes more taps, and could be confusing for users.
- When in Full Screen view, the button to expand the list, is hard to press and requires multiple taps to do so. Also, when the list is expanded, I find that it switches the note viewing when trying to hide the list. Perhaps the button could be moved off of the list?

One first observation: the "slide back home" (slide right to left from a note to home) is a bit too sensitive (especially interferes when trying to mark text)
And one eternal wish:
Are there plans to replace the current "add tags" dialog with a hierachically organized tags dialog (like the tags browser)?
For people like me, structuring tags like folders, this dialog is a pain when adding new notes (showing just *FOUR* tags of a *FLAT* tags list).
I'd go as far as to *pay* for my evernote account the day this is possible :-) (honestly!)

One little issue seems to be that the video I created is saved to EN without a file extension. I have to save the file to disk in order to view it.
Really great is the possibility of offline search.

2. Sync icon is ALWAYS spinning, even at "100%".
The sliding screen that reveals the new home interface is a little on the sensitive side. For instance, when I have a note open and I need to slide the note over from left to right, the whole note screen slides over to show the new interface, when all I wanted was to scroll the note (happens to be a detailed tablel I created).
I did find a work around for this: I have to slide the note up or down FIRST, THEN move the note to the side, and the note will slide, not the whole screen.
Let me know if this isn't clear.

- Not able to pinch zoom on text or pictures (my biggest complaint).
- When creating a new note the sync icon continuously spins, even though the note appears to upload.
- if i select original size, scrolling is almost impossible.
- The slide out note list is way too sensitive, interferes with scrolling (maybe implement it with a flyout handle instead)
- If i'm in snippet view and reselect snippet view, to get rid of menu box, it takes me to map view.

I'd like to clarify my default gesture desire and that is from all notes view have a default right to left gesture which takes you to tags then notebook view.
For larger screen devices btw, these navigation updates are a huge step forward!Winston Churchill

tablet, Motorola Xoom, android 4.0.4
Nice change on the phone, though my sync icon continues to spin even after reaching 100% also.
I don't really notice a change on the tablet.
