Password with backslash not working

After using Evernote successfully in Firefox/Linux and on my Android tablet, I was not able to log in from my Palm Pixi Plus, whether in the app or in the Browser. It kept telling me my login was wrong (btw, a mobile website might be a good idea, too).

I had to change my password to not include a backslash. Apparently, this symbol was transferred from WebOS in a different manner than from the other platforms.

I wonder what's behind that, technically.
