According to the teachers, the devices allow them to maximize the amount of time spent on teaching the lesson, rather than distributing materials and worrying about students who have lost their assignments.

Using Evernote, a program that allows users to save notes and projects across multiple devices, teachers can post assignments or documents that students can access on their own iPads. Evernote also allows teachers to have a record of assignments that students have submitted, which minimizes the chances that such documents will be lost.

“It's fitting in seamlessly,” said Ms. McMahon, noting the intuitive nature of the devices. “We're not teaching the technology, we're teaching the subjects.”

Mr. Middlesworth pointed out that the devices have saved a great deal of paper, and time photocopying, since work can be assigned and completed digitally. The students said they have less need for binders and notebooks, since those are provided by some of the iPad apps.
