Is there any way to edit an embedded spreadsheet on an iPad?

Hi Dave,

Do you have offline notebooks selected? I am pretty certain that you will need them selected to get this working the way you want.

Best regards

In Step 1, you have to have network access to do this. If I put my iPad in Airplane mode, then Quickoffice ProHD flags an error that there's no network connectivity.

Thanks for the clarification, now I understand your situation. Alas, Quickoffice needs internet access to work with Evernote. So without internet connectivity, I'm afraid you're out of luck.

Quickoffice can't access the notes which are stored the Evernote app (iOS prevents this). I'm afraid that enabling offline notebooks in the Evernote app would not change this. Quickoffice directly connects to the Evernote servers in order to retrieve and save note contents.

(note aside: offline notebooks are a premium feature)

Hi Anjoschu,

In this instance I am sure you are incorrect. The whole point of Quickoffice when I installed it on the iPad was to work on a spreadsheet at my camera club where I don't get internet connectivity. I have so far done this once and it worked!

So if you are right, I need to work out how I managed to do this.

To clarify, when I get a minute I will turn off wi fi on the iPad and try again.

Best regards

Chris

Got it!

If you try to open Quickoffice then open a file in Onenote it won't work unless you have an internet connection.

However, if you revert to opening Onenote then open the document and again open it in Quickoffice it will open and can be worked on. This is the way I did it when at my camera club.

Best regards

Chris

Thanks everyone for the troubleshooting assistance. I'm dissapointed to find this out, as I was hoping to be able to simply use evernote for everything. Now I'll have to regroup. Perhaps Galaxy S is in my future.

Hm, quite complex workflows described here. Meanwhile, I've bought Quick Office HD and am using it from time to time. The way I see it, the easiest way to edit/update an Evernote Excel/Word attachment is:

1. Start out in QuickOffice HD (do not use "Open with…" from Evernote to open the file in QO-HD)
2. In QuickOffice HD, find your note (this can be the tricky part sometimes)
3. In QuickOffice HD, open the attachment
4. Edit away. Save.
6. The attachment is updated in Evernote. (in the SAME note where it was)

Thanks, anjoschu, for this info. I had QO on my iPhone & iPad but that doesn't appear to have the EN integration. But yes, the QOHD does! This is good to know. (Since I had my iPhone several years before getting an iPad, it's sometimes hard to know if getting the HD version of the app is worth spending the extra money. I'm still debating on whether Winadmin is worth getting the iPad version or just use the iPhone version on the iPad. (sigh))
I'm not affiliated with Evernote. However, my Evernote sings & is an integral part of my life.

If this really worked, it would be fabulous. I don't completely understand the steps I need to do. Could you describe all the steps? (I'm assuming that by Onenote you mean Evernote)

Hi anjoschu,

My apologies. It was the end of five very tiring days away!

Basically, open the document from your iPad in 'Evernote'.

Then click on the icon top right that looks like an arrow.

Choose 'Open in Quickoffice'

You can then work on it, But when you save it, you will have to give it the correct name as it chooses some random naming system.

Hope that makes more sense.

Best regards

Chris

Chris, thank you for the clarification. I think we simply misunderstood each other -- you described how to open an Evernote spreadsheet in Quick Office HD to edit it, and indeed you don't need an internet connection to do this. I was describing what steps to perform if you want to be able to save the edited spreadsheet back into Evernote in the same note (for this you do need an internet connection).

Hi Anjoschu,

Too many days between posts!

As long as we know what we are talking about eh!
