You can always retake your photo for your profile. The reason we take 4 shots is that we try to introduce a bit of fun with the app so that anytime you pause for 1-2 seconds, the images of the people you've met will animate between the 4 images.

We will introduce the ability to pull a photo from your photo library in an upcoming release.

On this subject - is it, or will it be possibe in the future, to use a contacts Twitter or Facebook picture instead of having to take one?

I Just can't get into the mindset of taking people's pictures - just feels odd in a work or conference setting!

Thanks ...

Thanks that's excellent news. I know it might sound minor, and I agree the four animated photos are fun, but a lot of the time you snap that "great" photo first and then want to add it to the persons profile later, or you have a better photo taken on a different device.

Thanks

One thing that you might try if you feel uncomfortable with using Hello initially is to wait towards the end of the conversation instead of at the beginning. I used to do this with my business cards at networking events and conferences because I was getting a lot of unwanted emails and LinkedIn requests.

The idea is that you start the conversation normally, feel out whether or not you are even interested in remembering this person and only if you feel you've hit it off with the person, you bring out then phone and ask for the contact and picture. This way its a more natural transition and there is context for you asking for the more personal information. Otherwise its "It was good meeting you." with a handshake and you're done. You don't come off as being odd by handing your phone to someone you've never met before and you can selectively choose with whom you record your encounters.

I should also say that recording someone with Hello at the end of the conversation also allows you to tap in the quick note or take additional snap shots of anything else important to help you remember the encounter even more. Its the digital version of scribbling quick reminder notes on the back of the business card.

I have taken a quick look at Hello, but I would feel really uncomfortable asking for a photo - maybe its a British thing :P

I really feel you need to integrate it with some of the online services to allow published LinkedIn or Facebook photos to be used.

Hello William, I've tried Hello in a conference last week, and I was surprised by people's positive reactions. I think most of the people now is used to smartphones, and my intro to Hello was "I'm trying this new app to create this collage so I remember everyone I want to contact", and once people saw that I got other pics they were happy to be part of it... I hope it helps you to at least try that pitch. In a conference or festival environment it REALLY helps to remember faces and not just collect business cards. I do agree that if you meet somebody for a couple of minutes, and it's just you and him/her it's more awkward to ask...

NOTE TO THE DEVELOPERS: most of the times, from the four shots one is blurred, and some times Hello chooses that one as a main one :(

Heard loud and clear. We will be looking at redoing this interaction soon.

Good point from AngloScot about sometimes the best photo being on another device. I have no front-facing camera on my phone, so it's really hard to get a decent photo of myself to even have in my phone gallery. (I'm reluctant to ask someone to take my picture for me.) Would be great to be able to use Facebook or other profile pics. (Having problems connecting Hello with LinkedIn, but that's another thread.)
