These new options fill me with serious apathy so far - guess I'll have to wait until someone tries the process out on me to see how it feels. I can think of one practical problem however.. being a little over 21 (OK, a LOT over 21), my eyesight isn't what it used to be, and if someone handed me their 'phone to fill in a form I would need to have easy access to bright light and reading glasses to type in the details. Given there are quite a few meeting situations that involve standing around with glasses and plates in hand, the extra bandwidth of holding a strange phone and reaching for the glasses at the same time is likely to mean the phone owner might wind up wearing my canapes...

Me too. From initial posts on the board, it seems like most existing EN users aren't captivated by the new apps. But it seems like they new apps may be bringing in a new crowd of (younger?) users. (But then again, the board isn't really a true representation of users, either.) And that's a good thing. B/c if I hope to still be using EN in 20 years, we're going to want to have a younger crowd also using it so it continues to make EN a viable company. Like I tell my friends' kids & grandkids...get a good education so you can get a good job b/c I'm going to need them to pay into my Social Security. :P

I've not updated to iOS5. When I do I don't see my self using these apps much. I may download them just to try them out. But like GM, I've never been a visionary, either.

I've been ready for the "additional resources" response for weeks, and it'll come up with good reason. You know the phrase "too many cooks in the kitchen"? Apply that rubric here. The development resources for both Hello and Food were entirely separate from our IOS development team, and would not have impacted development efforts around that one iota. I understand, from a pure optics perspective that this can feel grating (you're releasing new apps when another app has problems) but it's simply not the case.

Here is an example of how the Food resources could have been applied to a long-standing request:

I noticed that the new "Food" application does both cropping and optional size reduction of images. I hope this is coming soon to the main app.

I don't mind telling you that it is very irritating that you provide this feature in a new app when many, many users have been requested it for well over a year in the main EN iPhone app.

I love that Evernote tries new stuff. I think that's cool, and I wish I worked in an environment where we could be creative and try different things. Kudos for that.

Having said that, I don't think I would ever hand my phone to someone for them to essentially create a profile for me. There's just no way.

Love the concept, and I agree that the context and encounters history is a great addition to EN. I'm glad to hear that integration with Addressbook is coming - that's key. Now, if there were a way to integrate it with Bump...

Interesting that you mention Bump. From anecdotes that I've heard from friends and acquaintances, most people around SV dislike Bump because it either doesn't work (can't connect or false connections) or is slow to startup and you "lose the moment" for using it. Do you not find this the case when you use Bump at conferences and other networking events? Do most of the people you meet, have and use Bump regularly?

Heh. I had similar problems to those you describe using the wireless "beam business card" function on my Palm IIIX back in the 1990s, too, FWIW.

I have used Bump precisely once - I'm an attorney, and I find that most (certainly not all) of my colleagues are fairly conservative about technology. Not a lot of Bumping going on at bar association meetings, at least here in the Midwest. But I assumed that Bump had an existing user base in other industries and with younger users that would not completely overlap with EN Hello -- so with integration between the two you'd get the (hypothetically) effortless transmission of contact information into each system even if both parties did not use the same application to get there, and possibly provide an opportunity for conversion of the other (non-EN-using) person. If Bump doesn't work well, of course, then it won't be terribly helpful to integrate.

I've never had Bump work for me, even amongst a fairly savvy user-set. Invariably, you stand around in a circle with a bunch of people, everyone trying to tweak the app to work, redownload, whatever, bumping fists to test. We'd just end up exchanging information by opening up contacts or shooting a text.

That doesn't mean there isn't a large possible base out there, but anecdotally I've had the same issues.

Guess I won't be trying Hello for another 18 months.

Yes, as stated in the first post of the thread. Ditto for the other, newly released app (Food.)

18 months? This smells like a phone upgrade period. IOS5 works on down through to 3GS.

I personally like the idea of small individual apps that feed into Evernote. I love Evernote Food and think Evernote Hello will evolve into a very useful app. Capturing other peoples details is always going to be difficult, with different cultures react in different ways, so Hello has a more difficult development path to adjust to these cultural requirements.

I hope all the products will cross pollinate with each other to improve the overall Evernote stable. For me the small satellite apps are great, quick to start and have interfaces designed for the task. If all these specialised interfaces were built into Evernote it would quickly become cumbersome and less simple to use.

Maybe I am just shameless, but I have no problem taking pictures of people! Granted, the ones I've added so far are my coworkers and I'm very friendly with them, but still, I don't see the big deal. I've actually had a lot of fun with this, especially after I discovered that the picture changes between the 4 (initially I thought it merged them into an averaged out one). They've enjoyed watching the photo change as well. I think if it's someone you want to remember, they probably want you to remember them too. Still, for ease of use, it would be great to be able to link to a FB/LinkedIn/Twitter account and choose to pull the profile pic from one of those sites.

This app is basically exactly what I wanted to find in terms of contact management! I've been explaining it to my friends by calling it a "personal CRM," which I think gets the point across (unless they don't know what a CRM is...) I see a lot of potential here and a great starting point for building a robust database of people I've met and key points from each encounter.

I know that the product is still very new and lots of great new features will come out, but I wanted to outline some things I would find most useful.
~being able to edit the address of the location since it doesn't always pull accurate info
~syncing with my current contacts on my phone, social media, or even Google Contacts
~sort of a combination of the above, being able to link the location to an address saved in my contacts
~being able to log out of the account
~a drag-and-drop feature that allows me to rearrange my contacts & a feature that allows me to sort them by first name, last name, date added, or any other type of relevant data
~a map feature where I can zoom in and start seeing faces of people who I've met in the map area, then tap on their face to pull up their profile
~more fields that I can fill out at a later time. The current ones provide a good start, but after I get to know people more, I want to be able to incorporate all kinds of information like work vs personal contact info, FB profile link, etc.
~can you add a picture of their business card to the encounter and make the text searchable in Evernote? That would make collecting their info quick and simple and then I don't have to worry about getting a stack of cards. Uber eco-friendly!
~as people have mentioned before, being able to use a picture other than the 4 taken when a contact is created - also allow multiple pictures that the pic will dynamically change between
~being able to tap or swipe on a contact's picture on their contact card and go through the various pictures of them (waiting around for the picture to change is no fun and sometimes I want to show them how they morph)
~allow a setting that will save the pictures to my camera roll, since I may want to use them for other things too

I like that I can add these people as a new contact in my contacts list, but since I already have them, can you allow an "add to existing contact" option? Also, I like being able to tap on the mail icon to start an email to them, but why can't I do that when I expand the info to see what their email is? I think it's not obvious that you can expand the info, so adding at to the tutorial when you first log in will help.

I added two contacts in the same vicinity within minutes of each other and now it says I met them together. I want to be able to disable that, since they were separate events.

I'm sure I'll think of more things, but great start Evernote Hello team! I can think of so many great ways to use this to enhance the connections I make with people and I look forward to further integration with the Evernote product. :)

great suggestions. i am not sure about the potential for it yet, at least in my circles, where even the bumping stuff would be quite out of place, but the more functionality this has, the more likely i am to use it. in its current un-editable state it is too limited for me.

Hi laelene,

I think our new release 1.1 will make you very happy as it addresses a good number of your wish list. Your other ones are in my roadmap for the product and will be rolled out in time. Thanks for the long list. If you have any other ideas of how you'd like to use Hello keep sending them our way. Thanks!
