I use Evernote 3.0.0.723 on Windows and 1.1.3a on the Mac. After removing the tag "business" from some notes on the Windows version the Mac version still showed the original number of notes with that tag no matter how many times I synced both versions. After that I created a test note on Windows and added to it a tag "books". After syncing both versions that note actually did show on the Mac but the changes applied to the tag "business" were still not updated.

Could you try logging in to the web UI to see whether these tag changes show up there? If the web shows them, then it sounds like the problem is on the Mac. If the web doesn't, then it may be on the WIndows side.

Did you make these changes on the current version of Windows, or did you happen to do these in an older release? We've fixed a few "edge case" problems with tags on Windows recently.

I am using the most up to date Windows version (3.0.0.723) and the tags do appear on the web UI. So it looks like the problem is on the Mac. Anything I can do about it?

Try restarting the Mac app, then do another sync, then run the Mac "Console" application and copy the last dozen lines from that. They should (hopefully) indicate the source of the error.

If you don't have any important notes that have not been synchronized to the service, you can also try the following:

Please try moving your Evernote database directory so that Evernote will regenerate a new local database by copying your notes back down from the service. To do this:
Quit Evernote, and quit the Evernote clipper in the menu bar.
In the finder, open the "Library" folder in your home directory
Navigate to "Application Support", and then "Evernote"
Move the "data" directory from that location to a different place (like the desktop)
Start Evernote, provide your username and password again if needed
This will synchronize all of your notes from the service and create a new local database.

I have the exact same problem with removed tags returning and it drives me nuts. I am planning to use it for tasks and projects and reference. But I need to be able to trust the sync. I will also grab a new set of data on the mac allthough I am not certain the Mac client is the problem.

In the finder, open the "Library" folder in your home directory

I'm having sync/loss of info issues as well. When following the above directions, I wasn't able to find an evernote folder in my library. Rather, there was a folder (com.evernote.Evernote) in Library/Cache/Metadata

Perhaps that's causing my loss of data issue(s)?
