I'll get this thread started:

My Number #1 Feature request would be a Spell Check toggle button on the toolbar... right next to the usage button. Those red squiggly spell check lines drive me crazy. Sometimes I want them, other times - If I have bits of programing code in my note eg:

Select Case variableXYX
Case 5
Do Something
End Case
.... then I don't need to see them. :D

^Agree with the Spell check. I don't like the red squiggly lines either, so I have turned off the spell check by default now.
My request would be Tabbed browsing in Evernote to let you open notes in separate tabs, so one can jump between them quickly and easily.

I'm a OneNote user switching my life over to Evernote. The single biggest thing I would want would be more levels.
OneNote has Notebooks->Sections->Pages->Subpages
This keeps my top level very clean and organized.
If going downward would be difficult for back compatibility, possibly Evernote could go upward with Shelves for Notebooks and possibly Bookcases with multiple Shelves.

An example of how I used this in OneNote was for my metalworking hobby.
Notebook = Hobbies
Section = Metalworking
Page = Milling
Subpage = End mills

I have about 5 top level notebooks for all my personal and work stuff.

Stacks (one level deep) are as good as you're going to get for a very long time, as far as notebooks go. You can organize using tags & nested tags. This has been discussed at great length, already, on the board. Anyone wanting to use Evernote is simply going to have to come to terms with using tags for organizing, rather than sub notebooks.

And maybe Rooms for Bookcases, and Libraries for Rooms, and Cities for Libraries... and Universes for Galaxies...

Nah. What BurgersNFries said. In Evernote, Tags are the way and the light...

when emailing notes, send through outlook instead of evernote like we used to do in 2.0. I really have disliked having to type in contacts names, especially when sending a note to a list of people. maybe even having a preference that would let us choose between sending through evernote or another email client.

Anyone wanting to use Evernote is simply going to have to come to terms with using tags for organizing, rather than sub notebooks.

And if tags were *actually* hierarchical, rather than just appearing to be that way, that would be a good solution.

But they're not.

There's no intrinsic need for them to be (see the plentiful discussion else-forum on the topic). In point of fact, they are very useful to many people as they are today. I do believe though that Evernote could implement some functionality that would make them more useful to people who want hierarchical tags (also discussed elsewhere).

It's still a good solution. It may take some other clicks if you have deeply nested tags & it's important to you to have the parent tags applied, too. Personally, I don't like the parent tag auto selected upon child tag selection.

I would like to see search box similar to the search box in the Android client. When entering search term in drop down menu should appear tags, saved searches, search intitle etc

With Ver. 4.x, Evernote and I are in a good place right now. But bringing back autotagging would be nice. Please also bring back note counts for saved searches, particularly for the purpose of spotting tagless notes. At one time or another, EN had every feature I could possibly want. What keeps me awake nights is when EN announces a major upgrade, and I start worrying that my most cherished features will be dropped.

I would love if you could drag notes into notes.

For example I have an expense notebook. So let’s say I order a new pair of shoes and I add the receipt to Evernote (1) (generally through a web clip). Then the company I ordered from sends me a tracking number. I then add that to Evernote (2) (generally by email forwarding). And then let’s say I don’t like the shoes and I return them, so the company sends me a return label, which I PDF and add to Evernote (3). Then said company issues me a credit which I email off to my Evernote account (4). AWESOME – I love Evernote because I have this continuous record of the transaction.

Now that the transaction is all done, I have 4 notes pertaining to this same shoe purchase. It would be the best thing in the world if I could just drag the three notes into the first note almost like closing a trouble ticket. This way when I do a search all the info is in that one note. Right now there is a lot of cleanup and deleting notes – time consuming. I buy a lot of stuff online :)!

Thanks!!

Would merging the notes together do what you need?

I have two #1 feature requests (sorry, I can't decide which one would make me happiest).

One is to enable hyperlinking to any file on my hard drive within the Ctrl-K command. Say that I don't want to bring in a searchable PDF into EN, but just remember that I have it on my HD.
Say the path to the file is
F:\@ProjKV\GARDENING\A-Herbs\DeBaggio's Herb Farm Growing Herbs FAQ.pdf

I'd like to be able to paste that path into a note, press Ctrl-K, and a) have that path be transformed into file:// or whatever code EN would adopt as a hyperlink, and B) have the capability to give a title to that hyperlink (similarly to what EN automatically does now when I drag a URL to a note: there's a title with a URL embedded).

And (oops, this is request 1.5) I'd like to be able to hover my mouse over a hyperlink and see where it will take me without having to right click it or press Ctrl-Shift-K.

Second request is to find a way to bring in HTML pages and have them automatically become notes. That would enable me to easily transfer my Infoselect database into EN without the rigmarole of installing EN 3.1 in a different computer.

Thanks for asking.

Yes - i think so. I didn't know you could do that > I just looked - SOOO COOL.

Now if you could just drag and drop a note onto another note and they would automatically merge that would be awesome. Thanks for the heads up!!

Lena,

I think that I can answer your request #1.
I decided to post it in a new thread so other interested readers will be able to see it too.

I'd like to see stacked notes. It's a cool feature for the notebooks, but would be really cool if it could be done for notes. I'm coming over from OneNote and that would really help to ease the pain.

We do have something of this type. Try to select several notes in the notes title list by control+left-click (If you do not see the list press F11).Then press control+enter. You are getting nicely cascaded stacked notes! :D
Is that what you are looking for?

I would love to sleep at night knowing that if Evernote suddenly goes belly up and doesn't work on Windows 2020, I could have exported the notes to HTML .. with titles, dates, tags and other meta data.

Just today again wanted to send a "booklet" of notes to a family member. Export to HTML ... then realized; it's nothing. I would have to start putting titles + meta data in the note itself.
