Just have one question - when will Evernote support Opera?

Thanks.

I'm told that Evernote works ok on 9.5 ... just say "ok" to the "this isn't officially supported" dialog box, and it won't come back again. Opera isn't "supported", in the sense that we don't regression test every web release against Opera, but let us know if it works for you.

To my knowledge, the biggest outstanding issue is that selecting text from a web page and then pasting only results in plain text. This is a fundamental issue with Opera (plaintext with clipboard), and not Evernote specific.

It's possible to view and edit notes on a basic level in opera. However dragging is a total mess. Try to drag a tag onto a note and Evernote/Opera explode in an orange text mist. So there is no way, at all, to tag notes within opera unless you do it at the time of note creation. (I'd mentioned elsewhere I'd be ecstatic to have a text input to insert/edit comma separated tags -- much prefer it to clicking/dragging, and it would make tagging in Opera possible as a bonus).

To my knowledge, the biggest outstanding issue is that selecting text from a web page and then pasting only results in plain text. This is a fundamental issue with Opera (plaintext with clipboard), and not Evernote specific.

Not Evernote at all... sadly, html awareness is something a portion of the Opera community has been clammoring for for years without luck. Alas, what can you do?

Ok, thanks for the clarification. Like I said, we aren't intentionally doing anything to break Opera, but we haven't had the resources yet to develop and test, and regression test with every release to make sure Opera is "supported". We're hiring and expanding, so would like to address this at some point, but for now we're focusing on the top two browsers for each platform. (Opera usage is 0.7-1.5% of Internet users, depending who's counting.)

Probably the most hopeful "web 2.0" developer comment regarding Opera I've heard to date. . . rather than "maybe" or "low priorty" it's usually just a flat "Opera is a dead end, use something else or don't use us." :D

We're using Google's GWT for our rich web UI, so that's the "long pole in the tent" for us. Their previous versions haven't worked on Opera.

Hello,

Are there any plans for a webclipper plugin for Opera? Opera now supports Extensions.

We currently test and maintain support for:
* IE 7, 8, 9
* Firefox 3.6
* Chrome 7 & 8
* Mac Safari

We don't currently have plans to actively test and maintain support for Opera, but I've heard that it works and you're welcome to try it. You can clip with the "bookmarklet" clipper at the bottom of:
http://www.evernote....web_clipper.php
Or you can select part of the page and use the built-in "clip selection" feature in Windows (Win+A) or Copy and "Paste to Evernote" hotkey on Mac.

The bookmarklet seems really slow, but eventually seemed to work. The Windows key + A worked just fine, I wasn't aware of that shortcut, very handy. Is that new to Evernote 4?

Thanks,
Eric

No, the global "clip selection" hotkey has been around for a few years, but you'd only see it if you clicked on our icon in the tray.

I am using the web clipper (bookmarklet?) in Opera from the beginning. Slow, but working.

Since this week the clipper does no longer remember the account, I have to log in every time.

Any help? I cannot verify whether the fault is with Opera (upgraded to 11.00; but it did work with this version) or the new EN windows client (4.2.0.3638 Prerelease). This upgrade was closest to the changed behaviour.

Thx in advance, EvB.

I would welcome as well the support for opera, as I'm using it on my pc, notebook and mobile phone.
It's not one of the most used browsers, but I think you could still make some users happy :(

Ditto. When I upgraded to 11, I didn't have to log into the bookmarklet everytime, but somewhere along the line I'm now being prompted for my password.

I'd say Opera 11 extensions are beautiful. I use quite a few including the LastPass one to assist in my workflow. Evernote should become an extension. I agree it'd make some of us happy. :D

Ahhh - today for the first time since a few updates ago I did not have to log in again when clipping with the bookmarklet in Opera.

Thx. There seems to have been some kind of update ...

Yep! On another thread someone from the Evernote team said some quick fix was slated for Wednesday regarding this issue. It actually came to pass and I'm quite grateful. :D

Yes, last night's service update fixed the bookmarklet session issue.

Opera support (and almost all other apps!) could be achieved with an Evernote "printer device". Any app that supports printing could simply "print to Evernote". I do something similar via the Adobe PDF driver, but that requires the additional steps of printing to PDF, saving, then manually adding the PDF to Evernote. I would DEARLY love to see such a "print to Evernote" funcion, for both Windows & OSX.

:)
