Collapsible note columns

I frequently use EverNote on a laptop (Mac and Windows both), and with the smaller laptop screens it seems like a waste of space to have both the Notebook/Tags column and the list of Notes columns being forced to be open every time.

I would LOVE it if both of the columns were made in such a way that you could collapse/open them using a button, like a drawer. That way if looking at dense notes I can choose to close one or both of the columns and use the little real estate I have to see more of the note. I can personally think of cases why I would want to close each column at different times.

I've tried making the columns as small as I can using the dragging of vertical borders, but it's still taking up more space than I need/want sometimes.

I also would like to be able to collapse columns. Even with a large screen, when I'm working on something like transcribing from a video I would like to be able to make the Evernote smaller. I know I can make the note to pop-up but it's easier if I can just collapse the columns whenever I want to.

In Evernote Mac use "View ▹ Hide Sidebar" to collapse the Sidebar.  I don't know of a way to collapse the Notes List, but (as you mention) "Note ▹ Open Note in Separate Window" will give you a "no columns" — a/k/a single pane — window of your Note that you can maximize and resize.

 

I agree that both panes should be hide-able, and that there should be controls on the UI and key-chord shortcuts for hiding/showing them.

In the Windows client, the F11 hotkey will indeed hide (or show) the note list.
