This weekend, Evernote Web started looking weird. The best way to describe it is that there are no buttons or icons. Instead of a menu-like row across the top (About Evernote, Settings, Sign Out, Invite a Friend, Gift, Help) followed by a search box, I see everything crammed in on the left: a search box, and underneath text links of the same options. Generally, the same thing happens elsewhere on the page: graphic formatting is gone, and all I get is text links.

A screenshot is at http://www.flickr.co...N03/4608439211/

I am using Evernote Web via Firefox 3.6.3 on Windows XP Professional. This happens on two separate machines with the same configuration.
I have exactly the same problem at home using Evernote Web via Safari on Mac OS 10.4

On the Windows machine, Evernote Web shows up just as it always has when viewed via Internet Explorer 8.0.6601.18702

I deleted all the Evernote cookies in both Firefox and Safari. I restarted all computers. The problem persists.

Any ideas, anyone?

It appears that your browser is failing to load our CSS style sheets. Are these machines protected by any sort of firewall that might block requests from your browsers? If you force a reload on these systems, does it fix the problem?

Thanks

Same issue here since Sunday.
Different computers.
All XP.
Latest Firefox and Chrome and IE7 - all the same issue - this was not a good time for this to happen...

This looks fine on under Chrome under the two XP machines I have at hand, and Firefox on one of them. Using a free account (since EN evidently uses account-specific CSS). Forgot to check when I was at home this morning.

Forcing a reload of the page does not change anything.

I checked with our ISS staff, there have been no firewall settings changes in the last month. Same thing at home. It works okay on IE8 at work, behind the same firewall as the non-working Fireforx; could that indicate that it's not a firewall problem?

Thanks for the reports. If you see this issue, can you say whether you have a Free or a Premium account? If you see this in Firefox, can you go to "Tools > Error Console" in FF and see if there are any obvious error messages there?

If you manually change the URL from "https://www.evernote.com/Home.action" to "http://www.evernote.com/Home.action" or vice versa, does it look right? I.e. does it work correctly if you change from HTTP to HTTPS?

Thanks

It works (ie display fine) if I change from http to https.

Maybe it's because the css is loaded and cached when I access https://www.evernote.com/Login.action and cached as an https file and it's stored differently ?

Besides, I looked at the error console per your request, and next to some css warnings (Warning: Unknown property 'zoom'.), there is a lot of messages stating :
http://www.evernote.com : potentially vulnerable to CVE-2009-3555
http://cve.mitre.org... ... -2009-3555

Thanks

Thank you for your quick reply !

That's very strange ... I can't think of any reason why it would fail in HTTP versus HTTPS, but it appears that's the case.

Have any of you changed your browser's security/privacy settings from the defaults? I.e. any changes that might prevent the browser from loading some content?

Hi,
same problem happen to me.
I use Free account on Win7(FF, Chrome, IE), Vista(FF,IE), Ubuntu(FF,Chrome). All of them are showing the Home.action page without style sheet(only TEXT).

Reboot or F5 reload doesn't fix the issue.

All of this happens since from last week.

I tried with changing from http to https, once time it works, but later on, changing between HTTP<->HTTPS doesn't work again.

How to reproduce:

1. Clean up your FF cache
2. go to http://www.evernote.com in FF and login
3. my Free account will log into http://www.evernote.com/Home.action with http by default
Now, you will see only TEXT without CSS style.
The FF error console said:
    www.evernote.com : potentially vulnerable to CVE-2009-3555
    ...
Warning: Unknown property 'zoom'. Declaration dropped. Source File: https://www.evernote.com/css/account.css?82619 Line: 564
    ...

4. At this time, I modified the address from "http://www.evernote.com/Home.action" to "https://www.evernote.com/Home.action" and do F5 refresh
Page will be refreshed, and this time, CSS is becoming effective, it looks normal.

The FF error console still shows the same error msg as step 3 did.
But now, FF has warning msg in status bar, it prompt as "Warning: contains unauthenticated content".

5. If you do F5 refresh at this time, even it's still HTTPS in address bar, it will still not show the CSS style. Only TEXT left.
The FF error console msg still not changed, and FF warning msg in status bar remain as Step 4.

I use FireBug to inspect the element on page at this time, and no surprise, it shows no CSS applied.

6. Then change to HTTP or HTTPS will not work any more. All you can do is to clear the cache of FF and reproduce step 1-5.

Hope this info helps on shooting the problem.

thanks,
William Lee

Hi Engberg,
I think I found the reason why this happens...

when I go to http://www.evernote.com and try to click the login link, it will navigate me to "https://www.evernote.com/Login.action?targetUrl=%2FHome.action"
Please notice, this is a HTTPS link. and based on Firebug report, it load CSS file at this time, in https context.

I log in with free account, I guess free account will be navigate to http://www.evernote.com/Home.action with HTTP protocol, not HTTPS be default.
At this time, the CSS can't be used to apply for HTTP content, because the CSS files are downloaded from HTTPS context.
So it won't apply style to HTML Element, with TEXT left only.

but if we modify the https://www.evernote.com/Home.action, FF is smart enough to recongnize the HTTPS context, and reuse the CSS files which already downloaded when login page.

To confirm this, you can simply open FF and go to http://www.evernote.... ... ome.action, Notice, HTTP, not HTTPS.
You can see the login page also no CSS applied now, only TEXT left.

I can totally understand, for login page, we must require to use https to protect information security, but also I believe, if you can fix "http://www.evernote.com/Login.action?targetUrl=%2FHome.action" first, then this issue will be gone.

Hope this can solve the problem, that bald TEXT looks really ugly. :)

Expecting updates from Evernote~~~~

Thanks,
William L.

Thanks for the report. There's definitely something strange going on here, since I can reproduce this in some accounts and not others. Will track this down asap.
